Job description

Job purpose

Responsible for assisting the Offset Lead Press Operator in the operation of printing press. Assist in performing setup, make-ready, print runs, setup and adjustment of the feeder system and assisting the lead operator at their direction in the operation of the equipment.

Duties and responsibilities

• Communicates with supervisor and press lead to verify production schedules and instructions.

• Assists on all pre-make ready and make ready functions both with the lead operator and independently, including but not limited to, plate mounting, changing print and coating blankets, ink loading and verifying resource readiness for printing of the job.

• Checks job set-up parameters with the job ticket specifications to ensure accurate setup.

• Performs all duties as they pertain to feeding, loading, adjusting air suction and blowers on the press.

• Monitors ink fountains, press chemistry as necessary during print runs.

• Evaluates product quality (i.e. rule-ups, checking for bleed, copy checks, color, register).

• Monitors all printing related processes, making adjustments as necessary working with the lead operator.

• Completes quality control procedures and required QA documents.

• Completes accurate paperwork related to paper usage and documenting spoilage/waste.

• Assists with press maintenance as required and cleans press and press area.

• Follows all company MIOSHA safety regulations. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Must have previous press operator/2nd man experience.

• Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

• Must have basic computer skills.

• Must have the ability to perform basic math.

• Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees and management.

• Must be able to maintain good attendance.

• Must be willing to work overtime as needed.

• Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Desire to train and become a Lead Operator a plus.

• Must be flexible to work 1st or 2nd shift.

Physical requirements

Physical ability and stamina sufficient to maintain continuous physical effort throughout shift, including frequent lifting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and twisting. Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform manual labor for extended periods of time. Manual labor is defined as exerting force sufficient to lift up to 50 lbs.
