Job Title: Flexographic Press Operator (for immediate hire)

Location: 6559 North Avondale Avenue, Chicago, IL 60631 (parking available/close to Metra stop)

Shift: First (Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM)

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Flexographic Press Operator specializing in pressure-sensitive labels and narrow web printing. This role is responsible for producing high-quality labels for industries such as food & beverage, health & beauty, chemical and industrial products, with a strong focus on color accuracy, registration, and efficiency. You will have the opportunity to run high-end, all UV flexographic, UV rotary screen and combination presses (Gallus Heidelberg, MPS, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate narrow web flexographic presses for label production
  • Mount plates, install anilox rolls and prepare inks for accurate color matching
  • Run a variety of film and paper pressure-sensitive substrates
  • Monitor print quality, registration and color consistency throughout production runs
  • Perform inline finishing processes such as die cutting, laminating, varnishing and slitting
  • Inspect labels for defects (color variation, misregistration, print defects) and ensure compliance with customer specifications
  • Adjust press settings to optimize run speeds while maintaining quality standards
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of press components
  • Performs all required tasks for the general maintenance of the department and equipment. This includes the general cleanliness of the department, sweeping, materials and tool organization, etc.
  • Troubleshoot print and mechanical issues quickly to minimize downtime
  • Maintain accurate production, waste and quality records
  • Follows the production schedule established for the flexographic department to ensure orders are processed in a timely manner and shipments are on or before the due date
  • Stores all flexographic materials and supplies in a safe place that keeps damage to a minimum, makes for easy usage and meets all requirements for the storage of materials
  • Performs all duties in an independent manner with little supervision and is a self starter
  • Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned - assists others as needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of experience in label printing or narrow web flexographic press operation
  • Strong knowledge of pressure-sensitive label materials, adhesives and inks
  • Experience with color matching (Pantone or customer-specific standards)
  • Laminations and cold foil
  • Familiarity with anilox roll selection, ink systems (UV), and plate mounting
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret job tickets and artwork specifications
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Sense of urgency
  • Ability to lift 70+ lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with presses such as Gallus Heidelberg, MPS, Nilpeter or Mark Andy
  • Knowledge of UV curing systems and inline inspection systems
  • Experience with specialty label applications
  • Basic computer skills for production tracking and press controls
  • CERM or LabelTraxx software
  • ISO 9001:2015
  • 5S/Lean manufacturing principles
