The main difference between a Printing Assistant and a Print Operator lies in their responsibilities. Both roles require similar credentials and work in comparable environments, but Print Operators usually have more technical skills and responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Printing Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Printing Assistant, you need attention to detail, basic mechanical aptitude, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with printing machinery, quality control tools, and sometimes digital printing software is typically required. Strong organizational skills, teamwork, and effective communication help you excel in fast-paced print environments. These competencies ensure efficient production, minimize errors, and contribute to a smooth workflow in printing operations.

Printing Assistants in busy print shops often encounter challenges such as managing tight production deadlines, handling multiple print jobs simultaneously, and quickly troubleshooting minor equipment issues. Staying organized and maintaining clear communication with the print team can help ensure jobs are prioritized correctly and completed on time. Developing a basic understanding of printer maintenance and being proactive about supplies also helps minimize downtime, making the workflow smoother and more efficient.

What does a Printing Assistant do?

A Printing Assistant supports the printing process by preparing materials, setting up printing equipment, and assisting print operators with production tasks. They help ensure that machines run smoothly, monitor print quality, and may be responsible for cleaning and maintaining equipment. Screen Printing Assistant

Miami Mixed Media

Miami, FL

$15 - $18/hr

Part-time

Retirement, PTO

Posted 3 days ago

Job description

Miami Mixed Media is looking for the next person to join the production team.

This is a hands-on role inside one of Miami’s busiest creative production shops where art, fashion, music, brands, and manufacturing all collide under one roof.

If you’ve ever wanted to see how apparel is actually made, how large scale screen printing works, or what goes on behind the scenes of a real production environment, this is your opportunity.

No two days here are exactly the same.

One week we’re printing for local brands and artists. The next week we’re producing thousands of garments, testing new print techniques, building live event activations, or running embroidery around the clock for national accounts.

We move fast, stay creative, and care deeply about quality.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

This is an active production role. You’ll work directly with our screen printing and production teams helping keep jobs moving throughout the shop.

You’ll learn:

  • How screen printing production works
  • How garments move through large-scale manufacturing
  • How to prep, organize, reclaim, and maintain screens
  • Quality control and packing processes
  • Production flow and behind-the-scenes operations
  • The pace and teamwork required inside a real print shop

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Loading and unloading garments
  • Assisting around printing presses and dryers
  • Reclaiming and cleaning screens
  • Packing and organizing finished orders
  • Helping maintain shop organization and workflow
  • Supporting production wherever needed

This role is physical, fast-paced, and team-oriented.

Who This Role Is Great For

This position is ideal for someone who:

  • Likes staying busy instead of sitting at a desk all day
  • Wants to learn a real trade or creative industry
  • Enjoys working with their hands
  • Likes fashion, art, music, design, or production culture
  • Wants experience inside a growing Miami company
  • Can work hard, stay organized, and show up consistently

Experience helps, but attitude matters more.

We can teach screen printing.
We can’t teach work ethic, energy, or reliability.

The Environment

Our shop is located in the heart of Little River and combines production, creativity, and culture all in one space.

You’ll be working around:

  • Automatic screen printing presses
  • Commercial embroidery machines
  • Creative teams and production artists
  • Music playing all day
  • Shop dogs Cha Cha & Pelusa
  • A fast-moving production environment with real deadlines

This is not a quiet office job.

Schedule & Growth

We offer flexible scheduling with day, night, and weekend shifts depending on production needs.

For people who take the role seriously and want to grow, there’s room to move into:

  • Press Operator
  • Embroidery Production
  • Production Coordination
  • Operations Support

Some team members stay for years.

Some come learn the industry, gain experience, and move forward into other creative paths.

Both are okay with us.

Requirements

  • Able to stand for long periods
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse/production environment
  • Able to lift boxes and assist with physical tasks
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Comfortable working around heat and fast-paced production
  • Basic phone/tablet/computer skills
  • English or Spanish is fine — bilingual is a plus

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive pay
  • Flexible shifts
  • Paid growth opportunities
  • Team events and company outings
  • Employee merch and MMM gear
  • 401(k), PTO, and additional benefits available for long-term employees
  • Pet-friendly workplace
