What is a print shop assistant?

Print Shop Assistants are support staff who help with the daily operations of print shops. Their duties typically include preparing print materials, operating printers and copiers, maintaining equipment, assisting customers with orders, and managing inventory. They may also help with finishing tasks like binding, trimming, and packaging printed products. Print Shop Assistants play a key role in ensuring print jobs are completed accurately and on time, providing essential support to both customers and print shop staff.

What does a print shop assistant do?

The duties of a print shop assistant involve stocking and operating printing equipment in a print shop or similar venue. In retail print shops, your responsibilities also include customer service and ensuring the proper functioning of printers and copiers. In some cases, you may also be responsible for bindery operations. If you work in a product production setting, you operate presses and run quality assurance inspections of the products during printing. In some cases, you may interact with customers and clients to get specifications for their printing run.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a print shop assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Print Shop Assistant, you need attention to detail, basic computer literacy, and familiarity with print production processes, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience with digital printing machines, graphic design software (such as Adobe Creative Suite), and finishing equipment is typically required. Strong organizational skills, customer service orientation, and the ability to work efficiently under deadlines set candidates apart. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality printed materials while maintaining customer satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by print shop assistants, and how can I prepare for them?

Print Shop Assistants often manage multiple print jobs with tight deadlines, so strong organizational and time management skills are essential. Another common challenge is troubleshooting minor technical issues with printers or finishing equipment, which requires a proactive attitude and willingness to learn on the job. Being detail-oriented helps ensure print quality and customer satisfaction. Teamwork is also key, as you’ll frequently coordinate with designers, sales staff, and other assistants to keep projects running smoothly.

Job description

Job Opportunity: Warehouse & Production Assistant
Location: Las Vegas, NV 89119 Type: Full-Time / Mon-Fri, 7:30 AM - 4 PM
About the Role
Are you someone who likes to see a project go from a digital file to a massive, physical reality? We are a premier Large Format Printing company looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Warehouse Worker to join our production team.
In this role, you aren't just moving boxes; you are the backbone of our workflow. You'll handle high-value materials (think giant vinyl rolls) and ensure our finished graphics are packed perfectly for delivery to some of the biggest brands.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Inventory Management: Receiving and organizing heavy rolls of vinyl, decal, and canvas.
  • Production Support: Using cutting tools to prep materials for the print team to the shipping department.
  • Quality Control: Checking finished prints for scratches, ink defects, or size inaccuracies before they leave the building.
  • Packing & Shipping: Carefully packing oversized graphics to ensure they arrive at the client site damage-free.
  • Facility Maintenance: Keeping the warehouse clean.
What We're Looking For
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and maneuver large, awkward materials.
  • Exceptional attention to detail. In our world, an inch off is a mile off.
  • Experience with (or willingness to learn) warehouse equipment like pallet jacks, forklifts and basic power tools.
  • Reliability: We work on tight deadlines for major events. Being on time is non-negotiable.
  • Previous experience in a print shop, sign shop, or handling specialty textiles is a plus but not necessary.
