Scope of Job
Supervises daily operational activities involved in print production, duplication, bindery, signage, embroidery, engraving, screen-printing, and related production services. Manages production workflows, job scheduling, customer service activities, and operational support functions to ensure timely completion of projects, adherence to quality standards, and efficient delivery of Print Services operations.
Description of Duties
  • Supervises daily operational activities and staff involved in printing, duplication, bindery, pre-press, signage, embroidery, engraving, screen-printing, and related production operations.
  • Manages daily production workflows including assigning, reviewing, and coordinating work to ensure timely completion of print, signage, apparel, and promotional production requests.
  • Coordinates print production schedules, job priorities, and workflow activities to support operational efficiency and customer deadlines.
  • Supervises and interfaces with customers to review job specifications, production requirements, timelines, and quality expectations.
  • Assists customers with selecting appropriate print methods, substrates, finishes, signage materials, apparel production options, and related production services to support departmental objectives.
  • Reviews submitted artwork and production files for completeness, formatting, resolution, and production readiness prior to processing.
  • Monitors operation and maintenance coordination of digital print, wide-format, signage, embroidery, engraving, screen-printing, and bindery equipment.
  • Coordinates production preparation activities including file setup, proofing, material staging, and job tracking.
  • Reviews and assists with coordinating interior and exterior wayfinding and signage production activities, including scheduling, material preparation, quality review, and installation support in collaboration with university departments and facilities personnel.
  • Supervises daily embroidery and engraving production workflows including production preparation, material coordination, equipment setup support, quality review, and order completion activities.
  • Coordinates screen-printing production activities for university apparel and promotional items, including scheduling, production preparation, material staging, and quality assurance review.
  • Coordinates sourcing and preparation of production materials including paper stocks, print substrates, vinyls, inks, apparel materials, engraving supplies, and related operational inventory.
  • Supervises online print ordering workflows, digital job intake activities, and production tracking processes through WebCRD and related workflow systems to support operational efficiency and customer service.
  • Monitors job tracking systems and production records to maintain accurate operational documentation and workflow visibility.
  • Reviews and assesses job specifications and prepares pricing estimates in accordance with departmental pricing guidelines and operational procedures.
  • Supports chargeback, billing, and job documentation processes to ensure timely cost recovery and record accuracy.
  • Supervises assigned staff including work assignments, training, and monitoring adherence to operational procedures and workplace safety practices.
  • Responsible for training staff on print production equipment, workflow systems, customer service practices, and operational procedures.
  • Reviews production output and customer feedback to identify operational improvements and support service quality initiatives.
  • Ensures safety regulations and operational procedures are communicated and followed at all times.
  • Assists with maintaining operational documentation including production specifications, schedules, workflow procedures, and installation records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Associate degree or technical/trade school coursework in Graphic Communications, Printing Technology, Industrial Technology, Business Administration, or related field.

As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).
Required Experience
Four (4) years related experience in print services including experience using graphics software packages to include supervisory experience.
Preferred Experience
Experience utilizing digital print production equipment, wide-format printers, bindery equipment, and related production technologies within a print services environment.
Equipment
Proficiency with standard office equipment and Microsoft Office applications. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Experience utilizing print workflow systems, job tracking platforms, and digital production software.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed in office, print production, and outdoor campus environments with exposure to printing equipment, production noise, and operational activities. Position requires standing, walking, lifting materials, and occasional evening or weekend work to support production schedules, installations, campus events, or operational needs. Prolonged standing, lifting and carrying of materials. Occasional travel between campus locations may be required. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Duties may involve occasional work outdoors in varying weather conditions to support wayfinding, signage, and installation-related activities across university facilities and campuses. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Strong quality control skills. Ability to assist customers with the design and development of print materials to achieve their departmental goals. Ability to supervise the flow of print projects from design to print production. Experience in interacting with customers and provide a high level of customer service is critical.
