The Principal Manufacturing Quality Engineer executes short and long-term projects focused on product and process quality improvement primarily focused on automated laser welding and metal forming. The role is responsible for working cross-functionally to execute the overall goal for reducing the cost of poor quality associated with plant operations and product performance post-sale.

How You'll Create Possibilities
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert in automated high-speed fabrication of stainless-steel components with a particularly strong focus on laser welding. Own the Strategy, Engineering, Execution, Documentation and Success for front load washer basket welding processes. Own all attributes of the Manufacturing Control Plan for all basket mfg. processes. Support other metal fabrication operations as appropriate.
  • Live, promote and support the Appliance Production System (APS) philosophy and drive continuous improvement in quality and adjacent areas. Ensure cross-functional, focused collaboration is the way we work.
  • Promote a culture that establishes, sustains and improves product quality through engineering problem solving and discipline around supporting systems. Promote a method-based quick response to new issues.
  • Responsible for delivery of projects tied to the overall factory (FPY, EOLA, Scrap) and product line financial plan (Warranty, Damage, Concessions, Scrap). Identifies and completes projects supporting this effort. Owns and delegates tasks and establishes accountability at the appropriate level.
  • Closely collaborates with the product line Systems Engineering Team to understand and respond to part or system level performance issues impacting owner use and satisfaction. Supports response to this data in addition to internal data streams (leading indicators) for product quality and reliability (Engineering, EOLA and CAT / CUT labs).
  • Identify and execute projects to improve the costing of operations, focused owner for Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) and Corrective Action Requests (CAR).
  • Lead projects through the change control process - supporting the efficient and reliable delivery and processing of materials from controlled processes. This includes risk mitigation associated with change to material, equipment and process.
  • Support analysis of data as part of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and implementation of responses as required by control plans. Escalate and measure response to data trends. Validate root cause response for effectiveness.
  • Support 1x1 problem solving for quality systems and related issues - collaborate cross functionally to improve product quality through the identification and elimination of root cause of issues.
  • Assist in providing guidance to the broad New Product Introduction (NPI) team regarding manufacturing process capabilities for application to new designs/processes.

What You'll Bring to Our Team
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an Associate's Degree plus significant automated laser welding engineering experience. A combination of 7-10+ years of experience in metal fabrication and welding engineering in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to travel internationally during the planning phase of this project for a total of up to 4 weeks (not sequentially). Ongoing travel will be minimal (<5%) post launch.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) / Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and linkage to Master Control Plans (MCPs)
  • Previous experience leading manufacturing quality teams
  • Six Sigma or Lean Certification or significant related experience
  • Expert ability in gauging and other measurement tools
