Senior Technical Consultant

Job Description:

Parsons is now hiring an experiencedPrincipal Fire Protection Engineer - Nuclear for our expanding portfolio of commercial and federal nuclear projects. This role focuses primarily on nuclear facility fire protection - including fire safety hazards analysis, fire protection application selection, sprinkler design, fire alarm systems, smoke control, code consulting, and special hazard fire suppression. While the primary focus is the nuclear industry, in this position you will also support a broad mix of commercial, industrial, healthcare, data center, battery storage, and government projects.

This position requires knowledge of fire protection engineering principles and their application to fire risk analysis and life safety in nuclear/industrial facilities, systems, and processes; local, state, and federal building and fire code, United Facilities Criteria, NFPA Standards including NFPA 801, 804, 805, and 806, DOE Orders and DOE-mandated codes and standards related to fire protection. Incumbents in this position must maintain current knowledge of building and fire protection codes and regulations to assure compliance.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Serve as the principal subject matter expert for nuclear fire protection and life safety in nuclear facility design.
  • Provide knowledge of fire protection engineering principles and their application to fire risk analysis and life safety in nuclear/industrial facilities, systems, and processes; local, state, and federal building and fire codes; NFPA Standards; DOE Orders and DOE-mandated codes and standards related to fire protection
  • Maintain current knowledge of building and fire protection codes and regulations to assure compliance.
  • Provide authoritative engagement with clients and regulatory agencies as a technical resource.
  • Prepare and/or review responses to technical fire protection and life safety questions from clients and regulators to defend designs and/or permit applications.
  • Prepare design packages to include the development of safety authorization basis for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
  • Apply the systems and equipment expertise needed to resolve technical system and equipment issues in cooperation with other related disciplines.

What Skills & Experience You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Fire Protection Engineering degree is preferred)
  • 20+ years of fire protection engineering experience, including 10+ years supporting DOE or NRC regulated nuclear facilities
  • Licensed Fire Protection Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Ability to convey technical authority in oral and written communications
  • Advanced knowledge of nuclear fire protection and life safety requirements and ability to apply best industry practices and regulations to the design of new facilities
  • Extensive experience presenting information/assessments to senior management, clients, and regulators
  • Ability to work in a project team environment with other design disciplines, management, and clients
  • Willingness to travel to supplier, client, or construction site locations

Minimum Clearance Required to Start:

  • US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE or DOW security clearance
