Salary: $88,100 -$153,000

The Prince Georges County State's Attorney's Office announces multiple job openings for Mid-Level Assistant States Attorneys in the following units: Youth Justice, Major Crimes, Guns/Drugs, Grand Jury, and Post-Conviction. As one of the busiest offices in the State, Assistant States Attorneys have ample opportunity for significant trial practice. Our Office has served as the crucible for numerous Judges, County and State Officials, and attorneys in private practice. The experience garnered by Attorneys in this Office is incomparable.

Job Description: Assistant States Attorneys (ASA) are classified within the Prince Georges County personnel system as exempt, at-will employees who serve at the pleasure of the States Attorney.

Mid-level ASAs are classified as grade SA02 or SA03 depending upon prior legal, trial, and professional experience. These are non-supervisory positions.

Salary: Individual salaries are set based on budget and experience, with the minimum and maximum salary scales of:

SA02 $88,100.00 - $139,725.00

SA03 $96,500.00 - $153,000.00

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have graduated from an accredited law school, be licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland, and in good standing. Candidates must have a minimum of one (1) year criminal litigation experience. Prosecution experience is preferred, although not required.

Additional Conditions of Employment: Candidates must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.

General Job Duties: (1) Screen and indict cases for trial; (2) Contact, interview, and prepare victims and witnesses for all court appearances; (4) Handle bonds, evidentiary hearings, and motions; (4) Prepare cases for trial; (5) First-chair jury trial responsibility.

Eligibility to Work: Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, an employer is required to hire only U.S. citizens and lawfully authorized alien workers. Selected candidate for employment will be required to show and verify authorization to work in the United States.
