Researchers often address this by building strong networks, utilizing specialized recruitment platforms, and maintaining transparent communication with participants. Another challenge is ensuring data accuracy and minimizing bias, which can be managed through rigorous survey design and thorough training of field staff. Collaboration with analysts and project managers is also critical to ensure research objectives are met and insights are actionable.

Job description

Overview

Amca's Primary Research Analyst [flexible seniority level] will be responsible for owning research into and strategy development of new market entry initiatives at the company. This person will sit on the Growth team, report to the VP of Growth, and work closely with the rest of the leadership team, especially the CEO. They likely have worked at a hedge fund for 1-3 years, but creative and incisive researchers with financial sophistication from other backgrounds would excel too.

You're probably the right person for this role if you:

  • Are excellent at the kind of fundamental research that hedge funds perform
  • Want to act, not just think and make investment decisions
  • Dream about the phrase, "special situations"
  • Spit on the efficient market hypothesis
  • Believe in heterodox theories of economics

Through this work, this person will determine which sectors within the industrial base (outside of aerospace and defense) we should bring our technology and playbook to next, and the most elegant and rapid ways to do so.

Most primary research leads to passive investment decisions or abstract investment theses; this work will lead directly to tangible shifts in the world, spearheaded by our own actions as an ambitious industrial company.
