What are prevailing wage jobs?

Prevailing wage jobs are positions where workers are paid wages that are determined by government regulations, typically based on the average or standard pay for similar work in a specific geographic area. These wages are most commonly applied to workers on public works projects funded by federal, state, or local governments. The purpose of prevailing wage laws is to ensure fair compensation and prevent undercutting of local wage standards on government-funded projects. Compliance with prevailing wage requirements is essential for both employers and workers involved in such projects.
