Job description

Press Brake Operator
Department: Manufacturing / Fabrication
Reports To: Production Manager or Fabrication Lead
Role Type: Full-time, hourly
Work Setting: Shop/manufacturing floor

Position Summary
The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up and operating press brake equipment to bend, form, and fabricate sheet metal components used in custom electrical enclosures, switchboards, switchgear, panels, and related low-voltage power distribution equipment. This role requires strong attention to detail, safe machine operation, and the ability to work from drawings, measurements, and production priorities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate press brake equipment to bend sheet metal parts according to drawings, cut sheets, and production requirements.
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, fabrication drawings, bend instructions, dimensions, and part specifications.
  • Select appropriate tooling, dies, and machine settings for each job based on material type, thickness, and bend requirements.
  • Measure completed parts using tape measures, calipers, squares, protractors, and other measuring tools to verify accuracy.
  • Inspect parts for correct dimensions, angle, finish, and quality before moving them to the next production step.
  • Handle sheet metal safely and maintain awareness of pinch points, sharp edges, machine guards, and shop safety procedures.
  • Coordinate with fabrication, assembly, engineering, and production leads when drawings or part requirements need clarification.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and perform basic machine care as required.
  • Support production schedules by working efficiently while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Prior experience operating a press brake or similar fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and work accurately with dimensions and tolerances.
  • Basic blueprint, shop drawing, or fabrication drawing reading ability.
  • Understanding of safe machine operation and general manufacturing safety practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to inspect work before release.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and willingness to work as part of a production team.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience fabricating parts for electrical enclosures, switchboards, switchgear, cabinets, or metal panels.
  • Experience with CNC press brake controls, tooling setup, bend sequencing, or layout work.
  • Forklift, material handling, or overhead lifting experience.
  • Experience working in a custom manufacturing or job-shop environment.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and handle materials as required for the role, using proper assistance or equipment when needed.
  • Comfort working around sheet metal, fabrication equipment, noise, and standard shop conditions.
  • Must follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and machine safety rules.
