Job description

Position Summary
The Senior Director Communications will lead and execute Ocugen's external communications strategy, ensuring clear, consistent, and investor-ready messaging aligned to clinical, regulatory, and corporate milestones in a lean, execution-focused gene therapy environment.
Responsibilities
Corporate & External Communications
  • Lead development and execution of external communications aligned to key clinical, regulatory, and corporate milestones, including OCU400, OCU410, and OCU410ST.
  • Personally draft press releases, corporate announcements, and core messaging. Translate complex clinical, regulatory, and CMC developments into clear, accurate, and compelling narratives.
  • Ensure all communications are scientifically credible, compliant, and aligned with company positioning.

Investor Communications (in partnership with CFO)
  • Support development of earnings materials, investor presentations, and external messaging.
  • Ensure alignment between scientific progress, corporate narrative, and financial messaging.
  • Prepare materials that can withstand investor and analyst scrutiny.

Executive Communications
  • Partner with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to develop messaging for key internal and external engagements.
  • Prepare Board-level materials, presentations, and speaking content.
  • Ensure leadership messaging is consistent, precise, and aligned to company priorities.

Agency Management (PR & IR)
  • Manage external PR and IR agencies with clear direction and accountability. Ensure agencies support execution rather than drive strategy.
  • Optimize agency output in a lean, cost-conscious model.

Digital & Social Communications
  • Oversee website and social media through a small internal structure.
  • Ensure content is purposeful, compliant, and aligned to key milestones and announcements.

Planning & Operational Discipline
  • Develop and maintain a forward-looking 2-3 month communications pipeline aligned to clinical and regulatory timelines.
  • Drive cross-functional coordination across Clinical, Regulatory, CMC, and Operations.
  • Ensure readiness for key announcements and reduce reactive communication cycles.

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, investor relations, or public relations within biotech or life sciences. Experience in a clinical-stage or pre-commercial biotech environment strongly preferred. Proven ability to operate as a hands-on contributor in a lean organization.

  • Experience managing agencies with clear expectations for output and accountability

Operating Style
  • Comfortable owning both strategy and execution without multiple layers of support
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, milestone-driven environment

Education
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MS, or related field) preferred
  • Premed or science-based academic background is a plus

Working ConditionsIncumbent will primarily work Monday - Friday during normal business hours out of our Malvern, PA corporate headquarters. This position operates in an office setting, and Job may require incumbent to be available outside of normal hours to handle priority business needs.
Physical Requirements
This is a largely sedentary role. However, employees may have to travel for business purposes.
