What does a pre sales manager do?

A Pre Sales Manager is responsible for supporting the sales process by working closely with potential clients to understand their needs and presenting solutions that fit those requirements. They collaborate with sales, technical, and product teams to create tailored proposals, demonstrations, and presentations. Their goal is to ensure that the company's products or services are positioned effectively to win new business. Pre Sales Managers often handle technical questions, address concerns, and help build strong relationships even before a sale is made.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pre sales manager?

To thrive as a Pre Sales Manager, you need a strong understanding of technical solutions, business analysis, and sales processes, often supported by a degree in business, engineering, or IT. Familiarity with CRM systems, presentation software, and industry-specific platforms—as well as relevant certifications—are typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to build relationships are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for effectively bridging the gap between customer needs and technical solutions, ultimately driving successful sales outcomes.

What are some common challenges pre sales managers face when working with both sales and technical teams?

Pre Sales Managers often act as the bridge between sales teams and technical experts, which can present challenges in communication and aligning priorities. They must translate complex technical information into clear business value for clients, while ensuring the solutions proposed are feasible and meet client requirements. Balancing sales goals with technical integrity requires strong collaboration skills and adaptability. Success in this role often depends on building trust with both teams and proactively addressing potential misunderstandings before they impact the sales process.

Job description

About Ubiquiti
At Ubiquiti Inc., we create technology platforms for Businesses, Smart Homes, and Internet Service Providers, driven by our goal to connect everyone, everywhere. To date, Ubiquiti has shipped over 100 million devices worldwide, from ISP networking products to next generation of IT solutions. Our growth is made possible by the dedicated team of hundreds behind the scenes. From software developers and product managers to designers and strategists, Team UI is driven to achieve our common goal: Rethinking IT. At Ubiquiti, you'll heighten your potential and broaden your horizons - all while shaping the future of connectivity.
At Ubiquiti, pre-sales engineering is not a support function-it's a strategic lever. You'll work at the intersection of customers, partners, and product, helping define how modern IT infrastructure is designed, deployed, and scaled.
The Role
We're looking for a Pre-Sales Engineer who thrives in ambiguity, thinks in systems, and enjoys turning complex, real-world problems into simple, scalable solutions. You'll work across Ubiquiti's expanding ecosystem-including routing, switching, security, SD-WAN, cameras, and access control-partnering with enterprise customers, MSPs, and internal teams to design architectures and influence product direction. This is not a traditional, script-driven sales engineering role. You'll be expected to operate with autonomy, challenge assumptions, and contribute to how UniFi evolves-not just how it's sold.
What You'll Do
  • Own problem discovery and design scalable solutions across networking and physical security, even when requirements are unclear
  • Create presentations, demos, and training content that translate complex systems into clear, compelling narratives
  • Translate customer and partner needs into structured, actionable feedback that informs product direction
  • Scale the Partner Program by onboarding new MSPs/SIs and growing existing partners through repeatable, high-quality deployments
  • Support both inbound opportunities and proactive outbound engagement with high-potential customers and partners
  • Build and maintain lab environments to test, validate, and refine real-world solutions

What We're Looking For
  • Experience with Routing, Switching, and SD-WAN is strongly preferred.
  • Embraces AI and LLMs to scale learning, problem-solving, and creative output efficiently
  • Clear communicator who can translate complex technical concepts for both technical and executive audiences
  • Strategic and systems-oriented thinker who can connect individual problems to broader patterns and solutions
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments while engaging with a high volume of customers and partners
  • Up to 10% travel required for trade shows, events, and on-site projects

Benefits
  • Latest Ubiquiti gear to build and maintain a home lab
  • Fully paid, high-coverage medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Opportunity to directly influence products used by millions worldwide
  • Flexible, hybrid work environment

Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000
