Pre Engineered Metal Building Sales refers to the process of selling prefabricated metal structures that are designed and manufactured in a factory, then shipped and assembled on-site. Professionals in this field work with clients to determine their building needs, provide estimates, and coordinate with manufacturers to ensure the correct specifications and timely delivery. They often assist with design customization, compliance with local codes, and may offer support throughout the construction process. This role requires strong knowledge of construction, sales techniques, and effective communication with various stakeholders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pre engineered metal building sales professional?

This Metal Building Estimator will lead detailed takeoffs and cost estimating for pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) and structural steel projects ranging from $50K to $10M, building accurate proposals that account for materials, labor, buyouts, and project-specific requirements. This is a high-volume environment where bids move quickly, and details matter. The ideal candidate has hands-on PEMB, structural steel, or metal building estimating experience and knows how to produce complete, competitive estimates independently without sacrificing accuracy for speed.
Responsibilities

  • Develop complete project cost estimates incorporating materials, labor, buyouts, overhead, and other project-specific costs
  • Solicit, analyze and level vendor quotes to ensure third-party materials and buyout scopes are accurately captured
  • Partner with sales, engineering and preconstruction teams to translate customer requirements into clear, buildable and cost-effective scopes
  • Assemble professional bid packages with clearly defined pricing, inclusions, exclusions and assumptions
  • Maintain accurate cost models while identifying opportunities to improve estimating efficiency, margins and overall bid accuracy
  • Manage multiple bids in a fast-paced environment while targeting accurate turnaround times of approximately 2-3 days per estimate

Requirements
  • 3+ years of estimating experience within pre-engineered metal buildings, structural steel buildings, or metal building systems on the manufacturing or erection side
  • Proven experience estimating projects in the $200K-$600K range or higher
  • Ability to independently perform full quantity takeoffs and build complete job costs covering labor, materials, buyouts, and overhead
  • Demonstrated success producing accurate, competitive bids in a high-volume, fast-turn preconstruction environment
  • Strong Excel skills with the ability to learn and adapt to evolving estimating, ERP, and internal tracking systems
  • Highly detail-oriented, dependable, and organized with the ability to balance accuracy, speed, and changing priorities
  • Construction-related degree preferred, though equivalent hands-on industry experience will be strongly considered

Benefits
  • Discretionary company performance bonus typically ranging from approximately 5%-10%
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance effective the first of the month following 30 days of full-time employment
  • Company-paid life insurance and a 401(k) with employer matching of 100% on the first 3% contributed and 50% on the next 2%
  • 80 hours of vacation starting at hire, increasing with tenure, plus 24 hours of annual sick leave
  • Flexible work options for highly qualified candidates, including potential hybrid or remote arrangements, with onsite opportunities in Pryor and Tulsa
