Summary of the Role

The Senior Director of Civil Engineering - Regional Practice Leader, is responsible for growing, strengthening, and leading Core States Group's regional civil engineering practices across the Pacific Northwest.

This leader will build strong teams, expand client relationships, develop leaders, improve practice performance, and drive sustainable growth across Core States Group's regional businesses. The right candidate will bring an entrepreneurial mindset, strong business judgement, technical credibility, and the ability to build trust with clients, teams, and executive leadership.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow regional civil engineering practices across the nation with accountability for client service, team performance, overall financial performance, quality, and sustainable growth.
  • Develop and execute regional practice strategies aligned with Core States Group’s business objectives, market opportunities, and client priorities.
  • Strengthen local brand recognition, operational density, cultural density, and regional market presence in priority office markets.
  • Identify growth opportunities within existing and emerging markets and help position Core States for long-term regional success.
  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing regional civil engineering teams with leadership depth across offices, disciplines, and practices.
  • Create a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, service, and continuous improvement.
  • Strengthen client relationships by understanding client needs, anticipating challenges, and positioning Core States as a trusted advisor.
  • Partner with market leaders and technical teams to support strategic pursuits and expand regional opportunities.
  • Help teams communicate the Core States value proposition clearly, including integrated delivery, responsiveness, technical quality, speed to market, cost certainty, and practical business solutions.
  • Promote strong delivery practices related to scope management, schedule performance, budget accountability, quality, client communication, and project execution.
  • Use performance data, client feedback, and business insight to identify trends, address gaps, and improve predictability across the practice.

Qualifications

We are looking for a senior civil engineering leader with strong business judgement, practice leadership capability, technical credibility, and the ability to lead both growth and execution. The right leader must understand how to run and grow a regional practice as a business, not simply manage engineering production.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline required.
  • Professional Engineering license strongly preferred.
  • MBA, advanced business degree, or demonstrated business leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Significant civil engineering leadership experience, including responsibility for client relationships, team leadership, program delivery, overall financial performance, and operational execution.
  • Demonstrated success leading national client programs, scaling delivery teams, improving operational performance, or managing complex client portfolios.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including the ability to evaluate client growth opportunities, financial performance, staffing, resource planning, workload management, and operational priorities.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering delivery for multi-site, national, or programmatic clients, including scope, schedule, budget, permitting, quality, and client communication.
  • Experience in civil site development, multi-site engineering, land development, infrastructure, national accounts, or related growth markets.
  • Ability to lead through influence, build trust, align teams, mentor leaders, and communicate effectively with clients, teams, and company leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to identify practical uses for company-approved AI tools to improve team processes, support better decisions, and increase efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to review AI-generated content for accuracy, protect confidential information, and remain responsible for the final work product.

The Senior Director of Civil Engineering - Regional Practice Leader must lead with ownership, sound judgement, accountability, humility, a strong sense of stewardship, and a servant leadership mindset.

This is a hybrid role out of the following Core States Group offices; Bellevue, WA; Kent, WA; Puyallup, WA; Chehalis, WA; or Richland, WA.
