DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
GILLIG Engineering is responsible for the development, customization, and configuration of GILLIG's clean technology heavy-duty transit buses. We are committed to developing the most reliable buses that connect communities, eliminates congestion, and contributes to a greener environment. Our engineers are engaged in designing, analyzing, testing, launching, and problem solving across a wide range of technical areas.
GILLIG's Colorado Technical Center (CTC) is an engineering hub dedicated to advancing innovative technologies for GILLIG products. CTC Electrical Engineering Systems performs research and development on communication, low voltage, and high voltage architecture for GILLIG's future products. Located in Loveland, Colorado, the CTC division plays a pivotal role in pioneering advancements in electric transportation." The CTC was created in early 2024 and is focused on developing the next generation ZEV powertrains and Advanced Engineering projects for the broader GILLIG enterprise.
The Electrical & Electronic (E/E) Systems Engineering in the Powertrain and Control Systems group within the CTC is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing E/E systems and components including low & high voltage power distribution, CAN bus network topology & variation, powertrain/body component electrical system architecture and integration to ensure proper functionality, safety, durability, and performance. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet regulatory standards, trouble-shoot issues, and ensure cost-effective and efficient designs tailored to the needs of heavy-duty transit buses.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced E/E Systems Engineering Manager who is responsible for overseeing a team of about 5 engineers to ensure and guide engineering design, problem resolution, and other duties related to the design and manufacturing of parts and sub-systems. This role involves direct influence on the overall design, development, and integration of systems for both existing and new projects. Key responsibilities include creating schematics for E/E component integration, high/low voltage & communication network designs, selecting E/E components, developing scripts for consistency checks, and performing safety and failure analysis. Additionally, the manager will collaborate with controls engineers, develop troubleshooting guidelines, and track key performance indicators of the E/E architecture.
This is a hands-on, on-site role at our CTC facility in Loveland, CO and reports to the Director of Powertrain and Control Systems.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Own/Define/Manage E/E Systems team processes, including automated quality assurance of team deliverables
- Champion E/E Systems specific requirements across the engineering organization
- Lead and manage SCRUM activities for the team in task management systems such as Jira while planning, tracking, and reporting on E/E systems tasks and releases.
- Create and manage Statements of Work with engineering contracting groups and prototype part vendors as needed
- Lead and oversee team operations including completion of performance management and reviews with direct reports
- Interpret customer requirements and map requirements onto existing or new designs
- Own E/E design in Zuken E3 from schematic development through detailed harness design and release on assigned programs, including design for manufacturability and serviceability, correct wire sizing, derating, and circuit protection, and traceability between the logical/schematic source and the released physical harness to ensure design quality
- Serve as the harness integration owner, merging electrical changes from multiple engineering teams into a single, coordinated harness, delivered as a formal release or redline, for the build and field technician teams.
- Manage the harness release process end to end, including change control, revision, and configuration management (part numbering, promotion from redline to release, ECN/ECO disposition, and effectivity)
- Facilitate Design Reviews with cross-functional teams to ensure all project requirements, as well as regulatory and industry standards, are achieved while optimizing designs via analytical, numerical, and/or empirical assessments
- Lead DFMEA to identify risks and drive the electrical system design to reduce potential failure modes. Then provide technical expertise to the test engineer(s) in support of DVP&R creation, execution and lead root-cause analysis
- Perform complex troubleshooting with on-site technical team and/or remote troubleshooting of issues with the field service team
- Autonomy: Demonstrates the ability to work independently with review at strategic decision points. Oversees the design activities of multiple engineers and holds accountability for results that can impact the entire organization.
