Job description

Position Title: Assistant Athletic Coach  FLSA Status:  Exempt  Department: Athletics  Reports to: Head Athletic Coach   Location: School  Salary Scales: Coaches Scale Position Type: Full-Time  Salary Range: 3%-22% of Salary Description of Position: Assists with the administration of the assigned athletic program which is composed of a number of students. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting with the execution of competition strategies for both individuals and the team at sporting events and monitoring the development and performance of student athletes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all district policies, procedures, and expectations regarding athletic programs

  • Assume secondary responsibility for student athletes during sporting events, practices, or other athletic program related activities.
  • Adhere to all financial policies of the district regarding the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
  • Serve as a representative of the school district during sporting events, maintaining professional conduct at all times.
  • Complete and maintain appropriate certification and training hours as required, including all MHSAA requirements.

Assists with providing guidance, instruction, and safe environment to student athletes. 

  • Assist with the enforcement of standards of student behavior during sporting events.
  • Provide proper supervision of student athletes during sporting events, practices, and/or other athletic program related activities.
  • Assist with providing instruction and demonstrating skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in the selected sport.
  • Assist with planning and organizing activities, practices, and games.
  • Travel with student athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
  • Enforce discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
  • Supervise students in the locker rooms during games and ensures appropriate behavior.
  • Assist with monitoring the academic performance of student athletes to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.

Other

  • Check and secure all offices, storage rooms, outside doors, and locker rooms after last player leaves games or practices.
  • Monitor and maintain sporting equipment and team uniforms.
  • Provide extended guidance and support to student athletes, as needed.
  • Assist with coordinating special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or other appropriate administrator.  

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university preferred. Certified teacher preferred.
  • Minimum Class "A" Mississippi Teaching License (preferred)
  • Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid Card, MS Class B Drivers License with Air Brakes and Passenger endorsements
  • Level 2 Coaching certificate through the National Federation of High Schools.
  • Coaching experience preferred.
  • MHSAA required certificates.

  • General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail, Internet software and word processing software.
