Job description

Overview

The Department of Behavioral Science within the School of Health Sciences at Touro University and University System invites applications for a full-time, in-person position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This role will be effective for Fall 2026 with a possibility to extend to Spring 2027. The university places a high priority on teaching excellence and on research with an expectation that the candidate will also be active in their professional field. The successful candidate will be expected to support our growing student population through teaching and advising and will work in collaboration with other programs within the department.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teach four full-time graduate level Clinical Mental Health Counseling courses per semester (both Manhattan and Brooklyn campuses)
  • Advise graduate students
  • Supervise students, and/or perform other assignments as approved by the Program Director and Chair
  • Serve on program-specific committees and coordinate virtual professional development series
  • Participate in faculty meetings, provide service to the program, the Department of Behavioral Science and the Touro University community
QualificationsEducation/Experience
  • Candidates preferred to have a doctoral degree in counseling, counselor education, or a related field from a CACREP-accredited program OR have taught for a minimum of one full year in a counseling program prior to July 1, 2013. Master's level applicants welcome with relevant teaching or specialty clinical experience.

Certifications/Licensures

  • Identify as a clinician educator with either full licensure in their field (mental health counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or psychology) OR a doctoral degree in Counselor Education (e.g. sustained membership in professional counseling organization(s), national certification, etc.).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Evidence of teaching graduate level Mental Health Counseling Courses (Required)
  • Evidence of clinical supervision experience (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty and colleagues (Required)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication (written and verbal) (Required)
  • Ability to solve complex problems and meet deadlines (Required)
  • Competence and/or experience in technology as an educational tool (e.g., CANVAS, Blackboard, WebCT, D2L)ย 
  • A commitment to work in multicultural and urban education settings (Required)
  • Effectively manage and organize daily tasks independently and with a team while balancing multiple projects and meeting deadlines (Required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook (Required)
  • Team player, able to work collaboratively (Required)
  • SPSS skills essential, data analysis knowledge in Excel a plus CANVAS educational platform Internet journal library and google scholar search experience (Preferred)
  • Experience using various Electronic Medical Record platforms (Preferred)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset (Preferred)
