Job description

Effective September 1, 2026, the ABET-accredited Architectural Engineering (AREN) program will become the third academic program within the Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University.
The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time or part-time, non-tenure track faculty position with a 9-month appointment beginning January 1, 2027, at the (Visiting) Lecturer, (Visiting) Senior Lecturer, (Visiting) Associate Professor of the Practice, (Visiting) Professor of the Practice, (Visiting) Instructional Assistant Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Associate Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Professor, and (Visiting) Senior Professor levels.
The successful applicant will play an important role in the continued growth and development of the Architectural Engineering Program at Texas A&M University. Primary responsibilities include developing, expanding, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in building electrical systems, power distribution, lighting systems, building controls, and related areas within the Architectural Engineering curriculum. The successful applicant will also contribute to the strategic growth and continued expansion of the program's undergraduate and graduate curriculum in building electrical and power systems; advise and mentor undergraduate students; support program assessment and continuous improvement efforts; collaborate with faculty across the College of Engineering and with industry partners; support student organizations and project teams; participate in departmental and university service activities; and serve the engineering profession. The successful candidate will be expected to provide intellectual and educational leadership in the continued growth of the Architectural Engineering Program's building electrical and power systems emphasis, including curriculum development, industry engagement, and support of future program initiatives.
We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas, with particular emphasis on building electrical systems: building electrical power distribution and utilization; electrical system design for commercial and institutional buildings; lighting systems, daylighting, and lighting controls; electrical safety and National Electrical Code (NEC) applications; power quality and reliability; emergency and standby power systems; renewable energy integration; distributed energy resources and microgrids; smart buildings; building automation and control systems; intelligent building electrical systems; building energy management; advanced sensing, monitoring, diagnostics, and fault detection for electrical systems; and other emerging areas related to building electrical and power systems.
Department Information
The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University is among the leading civil and environmental engineering departments in the nation. The department includes 55 tenured and tenure-track faculty members and 22 Academic Professional Track faculty members and serves more than 900 undergraduate and 370 graduate students. In addition, the Architectural Engineering program includes over 280 undergraduate students. Qualifications
Applicants must possess expertise in one or more areas related to building electrical and power systems, including-but not limited to-the areas described above. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the ability to develop and teach courses in building electrical and power systems and to provide leadership in the continued growth of this emphasis within the Architectural Engineering Program.
Candidates with degrees in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or closely related disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply.
For appointments at (Visiting) Lecturer, (Visiting) Senior Lecturer, (Visiting) Instructional Assistant Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Associate Professor, or (Visiting) Instructional Professor level, applicants must have a doctoral degree or master's degree in an appropriate discipline together with significant teaching experience at the college level or an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting.
For appointments at (Visiting) Associate Professor of the Practice or (Visiting) Professor of the Practice level, applicants must possess, at a minimum, significant professional experience, a master's degree appropriate for the field in which the faculty member will teach and significant teaching experience at the college level or an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting.
