Base pay range

$150,000.00/yr - $240,000.00/yr

The Principal Power Electronics Engineer will oversee the design, testing, debugging, and execution of power converter projects. This role focuses on developing innovative power conversion solutions for industrial, medical, and research applications. You will lead the product development process from concept to high-volume production.

- Assess customer/project requirements and select appropriate DC/AC and DC/DC topologies.

- Lead design and engineering analysis from initial planning through development and testing.

- Develop advanced power electronics, including converters and inverters, utilizing medium to high-power switching components (hundreds of kW) and related protection/gating circuitry.

- Select semiconductor switching devices and passive components for converter power circuits.

- Conduct verification testing and performance evaluations on new designs and products.

- Analyze switching behavior and transient characteristics for optimal device operation.

- Perform modeling, simulation, and control loop analysis to enhance design performance.

- Optimize designs for efficiency, density, and cost-effectiveness.

- Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.

- Build and debug prototype circuits in a laboratory environment.

- Conduct electrical characterization, design validation, and qualification testing.

- Oversee product introduction into manufacturing and provide technical support for production and field issues.

- Lead cross-functional project teams and coordinate collaboration efforts.

- Prepare invention disclosures to safeguard intellectual property.

- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.

- Manage contractor collaborations, track project timelines, and report progress to leadership.

- BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power electronics; PhD is a plus.

- 8+ years of industry experience in power electronics design and development.

- Strong expertise in power inverter operation and design.

- Deep understanding of 3-phase power systems.

- Proven ability to debug power electronics circuits.

- Experience with space vector, sinusoidal, and discontinuous PWM schemes.

- Strong knowledge of digital, analog, and power electronics circuit design, testing, and debugging.

- Hands-on experience with power electronics test equipment (oscilloscope, electronic load, power sources, probes).

- Expertise in SiC and GaN device-based power converter designs.

- Proficiency in circuit simulation tools (Matlab Simulink, PLECS, LTSpice).

- Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.

- Self-motivated, detail-oriented team player with strong problem-solving abilities.

- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and drive them to completion.

- Strong report-writing skills, including test result documentation and presentation to management.

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

- Experience in power electronic circuit design using Altium (schematic and layout development, BOM creation).

- Magnetics design and optimization expertise.

- Knowledge of high-frequency magnetics design principles.

- Ability to drive product roadmaps, develop new platforms, and extend power inverter solutions.

- Ability to generate detailed test reports, assess results, and present findings to management.

- Experience in creating high-density PCB layouts with noise and EMI mitigation strategies.
