Job Description
Position Summary:
Safety Manager position is responsible for managing relationships with assigned customers, implementation and execution of company and customer safety programs and initiatives and is responsible for field safety supervision and customer safety coordination. This position provides leadership and direction for all operational and technical safety components that ensure processes and strategies promote a positive safety culture and include support for and assurances that field management maintain the safety responsibility.
Essential Functions:
  • Serve as a focal point for all customer safety issues
  • Proactively manage customer safety and audit activities in order to comply with all applicable regulations and Power Contracting Standards, prevent injuries to employees, prevent negative impact to the environment and satisfy customer EHS requirements.
  • Ensure that knowledge and resources are shared between assigned work area and functions at Power Contracting.
  • Ensure that programs are in place at assigned sites to:
    • Promptly and effectively deal with customer safety issues as they arise
    • Ensure that the crew audit program is implemented according to Power Contracting's policy
  • Assist in the establishment of health and safety programs to minimize accidents and loss, with a zero-incidence goal in assigned region and/or area

Minimum Requirements:
  • +10 years in operational experience including at least 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Completed OSHA 500 Course strongly preferred
  • Completed OSHA 10/20 T&D training
  • Strong technical background in electricity and construction best practices as well as occupational health and safety and construction safety
  • Proven understanding of the construction environment and the ability to lead detailed Job Hazard Assessments and provide alternative means of compliance when necessary.
  • A minimum High School degree required. College experience preferred.
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), Manager of Environmental, Safety and Health Certificate preferred.
  • Strong written, presentational, influencing and communication skills.
  • Experience as a "change agent" that can work effectively with all levels of the corporation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge in the Power Line Industry.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the corporation in a collegial and relationship building fashion and act as a mentor to field supervision and operations personnel.
