Job Summary

Aptive Resources LLC is seeking an experienced Power BI / Power Platform & Data Automation Developer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Electronic Health Record (EHR) program.

This full-time role will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable reporting, dashboarding, automation, application, data transformation, and workflow solutions that improve operational visibility, decision-making, and issue management across VA programs. The role requires hands-on technical development experience, including the ability to write, troubleshoot, document, and maintain reusable code, queries, formulas, scripts, and logic across reporting, analytics, automation, and application use cases.

The developer will support reporting and analytics efforts related to VA issue management, RMA to ServiceNow transition activities, KPI reporting, executive dashboards, operational data products, workflow automation, and data validation. This position requires strong technical execution, attention to data quality, and the ability to work with stakeholders to clarify requirements, document assumptions, and deliver solutions that are accurate, maintainable, scalable, and aligned with organizational priorities.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience with Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SQL-supported data preparation, DAX, Power Query/M, Power Fx, and other coding or scripting approaches used to transform data, automate processes, and deliver reliable business intelligence solutions.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, and visual analytics products that support executive, operational, and team-level decision-making.
  • Apply Data Visualization: Power BI expertise to produce clear, usable, and actionable reporting products for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Perform Data Analysis: Reporting activities, including KPI definition, reporting logic development, trend analysis, data validation, and performance interpretation.
  • Develop and sustain Power Apps and Power Platform solutions that improve workflow efficiency, intake processes, data capture, issue tracking, and operational support functions.
  • Develop reusable code, queries, formulas, scripts, and transformation logic to support scalable reporting, automation, data validation, and operational analytics.
  • Use Power Query, DAX, Power Fx, SQL, and other coding or scripting approaches to clean, transform, model, validate, and present data from multiple sources.
  • Build and maintain SQL queries, DAX measures, Power Query/M transformations, Power Fx logic, and other reusable technical components needed to integrate, prepare, validate, and analyze data.
  • Support reporting and analytics related to VA issue management workflows, including Jira, SharePoint, RMA, ServiceNow, Excel-based datasets, APIs, enterprise data platforms, and other approved data sources.
  • Build and maintain KPI reporting frameworks, including measures related to SLA performance, ticket volume, workload, assignment routing, status tracking, aging, re-entry, and resolution performance.
  • Support data automation and integration activities across approved platforms, including SharePoint, Jira, ServiceNow, Excel, Power Platform, and enterprise reporting environments.
  • Partner with business owners, analysts, data engineers, and stakeholders to clarify requirements, document acceptance criteria, and ensure reporting products meet operational and strategic needs.
  • Apply development best practices, including documentation, version control, code review, QA, reusable logic, testing, clear naming conventions, and controlled deployment.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including data dictionaries, report logic, transformation rules, user guidance, technical specifications, and sustainment documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the team's reporting architecture, data standards, automation practices, coding standards, and analytics maturity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in business intelligence, data analytics, reporting automation, Power BI, Power Platform, data transformation, or related technical delivery roles.
  • 3+ years of hands-on technical development experience writing, troubleshooting, documenting, and maintaining reusable code, queries, formulas, scripts, or transformation logic using tools such as SQL, DAX, Power Query/M, Power Fx, Python, R, APIs, or similar technologies.
  • Federal experience is required, including experience supporting programs, systems, reporting needs, governance processes, stakeholder environments, or federal healthcare operations.
  • Experience developing advanced Power BI dashboards, reports, data models, and DAX measures.
  • Coding experience required, including demonstrated ability to write, troubleshoot, document, and maintain reusable code or logic in one or more languages or platforms such as SQL, DAX, Power Query/M, Power Fx, Python, R, APIs, or similar tools.
  • Working knowledge of SQL for querying, joining, validating, and preparing data for reporting and analytics.
  • Data Visualization: Power BI experience, including dashboard design, data storytelling, visual performance tuning, and executive-level reporting.
  • Data Analysis: Reporting experience, including requirements analysis, KPI development, report logic validation, and interpretation of operational performance trends.
  • Experience building and maintaining Power Apps and Power Platform-based workflow or business process solutions.
  • Experience using Power Automate or similar tools to support workflow automation, approvals, notifications, data movement, and process improvement.
  • Experience working with structured and semi-structured data from multiple systems, including SharePoint lists, Jira exports, ServiceNow data, Excel-based datasets, APIs, or enterprise data platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data transformation, report performance optimization, dashboard usability, and data quality controls.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with QA, data validation, documentation, and maintaining traceability from requirements through delivery.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting VA or DHO.
  • Experience with ServiceNow reporting, ServiceNow data structures, or migration from legacy tools to ServiceNow-based workflows.
  • Experience with Databricks, enterprise data platforms, medallion architecture, or modern data pipeline concepts.
  • Experience developing executive-level dashboards and operational reporting for senior leadership audiences.
  • Experience with GitHub, version control, code review, reusable code libraries, and team-based development standards.
  • Experience documenting data dictionaries, transformation logic, report metadata, technical assumptions, and data lineage.
  • Experience developing or maintaining API-based, file-based, SharePoint-based, Jira-based, or ServiceNow-based data integrations.
