Position Title: Powder Coat Technician

Department: Production

Location: Sioux Falls, SD

About AGI

AGI Hi Roller manufactures a line of premier commercial enclosed, dust-tight and self-reloading conveyors, designed for installation in grain handling facilities, soy and corn processing operations and industrial operations. It specializes exclusively in the design and application of conveyors which will not only contain dust and spilled materials but will also automatically reload that material back on the carrying surface of the belt.

The Opportunity

The Powder Coat Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the production of high-quality powder-coated parts while maintaining the efficiency and compliance of our powder coat system and pretreatment line. This position involves assisting with technical areas as it relates to the powder coat system, electrostatic spray guns, settings, adjustments, quality checks and implementing preventative maintenance procedures. This role will work cross-functionally with departments to troubleshoot and drive sustainable improvements and solutions. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to waste treatment regulations and environmental compliance.

The Team

Our large production team consists of welders, assemblers, metal fabricators, powder coat operators, and more. As a Powder Coat Technician, you will report to the Production Supervisor of the Powder Coat area and work with the powder coat operators and maintenance technicians to ensure consistent operation of our powder coat equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and inspect powder paints for proper application on product and components.
  • Apply powder per manufacturing specifications (booth & gun settings and/or adjustments).
  • Follow all principles and practices of powder coat applications per standards to ensure all are produced/coated efficiently with high quality standards.
  • Operate and maintain powder-coating booth system and observe gauges and equipment operations to detect defects.
  • Identify and address any defects, inconsistencies, or imperfections in the powder finish through collaboration with production teams to implement corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Perform regular and preventative maintenance on the powder-coating system, including cleaning, lubrication, and calibration of equipment.
  • Coordinate support function resources to help troubleshoot and repair any issues related to powder application equipment.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel to address mechanical and electrical issues promptly.
  • Coordinate vendor visits related to the powder-coating line.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Understand and follow procedures dealing with parts flow and manufacturing process
  • Assist with technical training of new powder-coat operators.
  • Perform daily monitoring of wash and waste treatment systems and document all readings.
  • Implement and update procedures to ensure the powder line system operates within environmental regulations.
  • Maintain Reverse Osmosis and waste treatment systems to the company standards.
  • Maintain waste streams and file required documentation.
  • Perform and maintain burn off system. Keep up 5S standards.
  • Monitor and adjust electrostatic parameters (KV, amperage).
  • Manage powder reclaim system efficiency
  • Inspect and verify cure schedules (time and temperature)
  • Verify pretreatment quality (wash stages, chemical concentrations)
  • Follow AGI's Code of Business Ethics and related compliance policies
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years of proven experience and knowledge of powder paint and maintaining powder-coating equipment
  • Ability to understand basic mechanical and manufacturing techniques
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and waste treatment practices
  • Must be able to distinguish colors since the job involves color inspection
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate a computer and access programs, make transactions, and solve simple computer functions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

  • Prior work experience with MRP system in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Chemistry background or knowledge is a plus
