Job description

The role...

At Soho House, the Bartender is responsible for preparing alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, serving food and providing excellent service accompanied by memorable experiences to all guests and members who visit a Soho House & Co. property. As a Bartender you are an extension of the brand, management team and global food and drink program. As a result, you will be responsible for professional behavior, charismatic and positive energy to create a fun environment that drives conversation and sales.

A successful Bartender will greet customers, learn and remember their preferences, answer questions, recommend menu items, and prepare and serve beverages. You will also upsell items, create recipes, utilize proper equipment and ingredients, and handle basic cleaning duties. To succeed as a Soho House Bartender, you should have a neat appearance and an engaging, friendly personality. You should be efficient, observant, knowledgeable, and personable with a thirst for all things craft cocktails!

Seasonal Position: This role is expected to run from April through September.

Main Duties

  • Deliver exceptional service to members and guests by creating a welcoming, engaging, and memorable bar experience in accordance with Soho House standards.
  • Follow established recipes, beverage specifications, and steps of service when preparing cocktails, coffee beverages, juices, wine, beer, and other menu offerings to ensure consistency across the House.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the beverage program, including cocktails, spirits, wine, beer, coffee, and seasonal offerings, and confidently educate members and guests on beverage selections learned through House Tonic and other training programs.
  • Promote beverage sales by discussing daily specials, seasonal features, premium offerings, and food and beverage pairings that enhance the member and guest experience.
  • Verify guest identification and ensure compliance with all responsible alcohol service requirements, including monitoring guest consumption and escalating concerns to management when appropriate.
  • Accurately process transactions, operate the point-of-sale system, handle cash and credit card payments, and complete end-of-shift reconciliation procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar area, including washing glassware, utensils, equipment, and service tools throughout the shift.
  • Collaborate with barbacks, servers, runners, and management to ensure timely service and seamless execution during all service periods.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs to management and bar support teams to maintain operational readiness.
  • Assist in receiving, stocking, rotating, and storing beverage products in accordance with company standards and food safety requirements.
  • Create attractive bar displays and maintain presentation standards that support the beverage program and overall guest experience.
  • Attend and actively participate in pre-shift meetings, beverage trainings, menu rollouts, and company-led development programs.
  • Adhere to all health and safety standards, food safety regulations, responsible alcohol service requirements, and Company policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of bartending experience in a high-volume restaurant, hotel, club, or hospitality environment.
  • Experience preparing craft cocktails and working with fresh, seasonal, and perishable ingredients.
  • Coffee and espresso beverage experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of spirits, wine, beer, cocktail preparation, and responsible alcohol service practices.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize competing demands, and deliver beverages accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and guest engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Flexible schedule with availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • Responsible alcohol service certification (TIPS or equivalent) required, where applicable.
  • Experience with Micros or similar point-of-sale systems preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to continuously stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to frequently use hands and fingers to grasp, hold, reach, pour, mix, carry, and manipulate bar tools, glassware, and beverage products.
  • Must be able to regularly bend, stoop, twist, reach, crouch, kneel, squat, and climb as required to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and move up to 40 pounds without assistance and occasionally move heavier items with assistance.
  • Must be able to safely transport cases, kegs, beverage products, glassware, and bar supplies throughout the property.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions while preparing beverages and maintaining service standards in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work in varying temperatures, including walk-in coolers, storage areas, outdoor service spaces, and high-volume bar environments.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
