Job description

Job Description Summary:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and structural repairs to support the operation and upkeep of poultry farm facilities. This role involves servicing multiple farm sites and ensuring that buildings, systems, and equipment remain in safe and optimal working condition. The position is primarily Monday through Friday, with all tools, equipment, and vehicles provided by the company.

Job Description:

Applicants are not allowed to own any kind of birds due to the risk of possible disease transmission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform basic mechanical repairs on plumbing, lighting, heating, air conditioning, and other building systems.

  • Install, maintain, and repair poultry farm equipment, including chain feed systems, line auger feed systems, Rotem controllers, watering systems, ventilation systems, generators, wells, and septic systems.

  • Conduct building repairs, such as working with chicken wire, repairing wooden structures, replacing electrical and plumbing fixtures, cutting Plexiglas to fit aluminum frames, and performing routine maintenance.

  • Grease and service equipment, check functionality, and make repairs as needed.

  • Work with PVC waterlines and fittings, and install Cat6 wiring.

  • Safely operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.

  • Follow safety procedures, including Lock-out/Tag-out protocols, and wear appropriate PPE.

  • Drive company-provided maintenance van to and from assigned farm sites.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, flooring, masonry, electrical, welding, roofing, machinery, mechanics, and HVAC systems.

  • Must have a valid drivers license.

  • Proficiency in using basic hand and power tools.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow task-specific instructions and safety protocols.

  • Strong teamwork skills, good verbal communication, and a positive attitude.

Physical Requirements

  • Walk and stand for extended periods.

  • Accurately measure materials for cutting using hand and power tools.

  • Move safely over uneven terrain and work in environments with wood shavings or rough ground.

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs. and apply up to 50 lbs. of force to push carts.

  • Work at heights of up to 20 ft. using aerial lifts with fall protection.

  • Perform repetitive tasks requiring hand/wrist dexterity.

  • Frequently bend, kneel, squat, and work at floor level.

  • Use both fixed and portable ladders.

  • Safely handle a variety of tools, including drills, saws, grinders, welders, blowtorches, and hammers.

  • Wear required PPE such as ear protection, safety glasses, gloves, helmets, harnesses, and boots.

Work Conditions

  • Exposure to dust, dander, and airborne particles.

  • Exposure to varying noise levels

  • Occasional contact with cleaning chemicals, detergents, and disinfectants.

  • Work in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, snow, ice, and rain.
