Position Title Open Rank Professor of Computer Science/Cybersecurity

Overview

St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master’s and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. The University’s residential campus boasts a robust living and learning community and a successful intercollegiate athletics program. Fisher is a community where all are welcome, regardless of religious or cultural background. The University continues to honor its founders, the Congregation of St. Basil, by embracing their motto, “Teach Me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge.” We are located in Pittsford, N.Y., seven miles outside of the city of Rochester. Job Responsibilities

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks a tenure-track Open Rank Professor of Computer Science and Cybersecurity to begin Fall 2027. We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in computer science, cyber security, or a closely related field. Preferred specializations include artificial intelligence, user interface, user experience, or human-computer interaction. This position carries a 9-12 hour teaching load per semester and involves teaching undergraduate courses across multiple modalities (in-person, online, and hybrid). Faculty are expected to contribute meaningfully across research, teaching, and service while actively engaging with students and the broader Fisher community.

The candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate computer science and cybersecurity courses; assess student learning and progress.
  • Play a role in Fisher’s efforts to integrate AI across campus.
  • Actively incorporate generative, agentic, and emerging AI technologies into teaching and learning experiences to prepare students for careers in the field.
  • Maintain an active program of scholarship.
  • Advise and mentor students and support recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Utilize an array of teaching techniques.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of courses, programs, and School initiatives.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, alumni, and the professional community to advance the School’s mission.
  • Provide service to the Department, School, University, profession, and broader community, and share expertise through scholarly and professional outlets.
Education / Experience Required Qualifications
  • Proof of permanent right to work in the US on first day of employment.
  • A terminal degree in computer science, cybersecurity or related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered if the degree will be completed by August 2027.
  • Demonstrated potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Preferred Experiences
  • Professional experience in related fields of computer science or cybersecurity.
  • Ability to lead collaborative efforts to improve curriculum and programming.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with teaching or professional experience in artificial intelligence, user interface, user experience, or human-computer interaction.
