Position Highlights
The Department of Medicine at the University of Arizona is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Division of Endocrinology in the laboratory of Dr. Ronadip Banerjee. The focus of this position will be to study molecular mechanisms of pancreatic islet adaptation to pregnancy and dysregulation in gestational diabetes mellitus and other metabolic disorders.
In addition to their own project/experimental procedures, the Postdoctoral Research Associate is required to work with other lab members and assist with their own projects. The primary purpose of this appointment is to engage in advanced research training. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will focus on contributing to the Division's research initiatives under Dr. Ronadip Banerjee's mentorship and in collaboration with other researchers.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and carry out long-term, multi-stage experiments and projects. Record, analyze and organize data for project completion, presentation at meetings and for publication.
  • Participate in lab meetings, group meetings, journal clubs, and collaborative research projects.
  • Write manuscripts leading to research publications.
  • Prepare poster and short talks for attendance at local, regional and national meetings.
  • Write career development grants, obtain funding, contribute to lab-based grant proposals.
  • Engage in career development activities, contribute to training and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students in the lab, as well as other duties as assigned by the PI.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong work ethic and the ability to work interactively are required.
  • Ability to develop collaborations both within and outside the institution is desirable.
  • Strong candidates will be able to carry out routine duties independently, while maintaining excellent communication with the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure projects are completed as directed.
  • Willingness to work with animal models and human islets is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD and/or MD in a science-related field conferred by the start date and 0-5 years of experience at Postdoc rank.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in islet biology or diabetes is desirable; candidates with experience in metabolism, genetics, developmental biology, and related disciplines will be considered.
  • Postdocs who are strong candidates for extramural postdoctoral fellowships are strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with mouse models is highly desirable.
