Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinates all activities between the U.S. post office and the Institution.
  • Delivers and picks up all mail.
  • Receives U.S. post office and United Parcel Service packages.
  • Supervises inspection of all mail for contraband.
  • Maintains and interprets SCDC policies and U.S. postal regulations concerning mail in an institutional environment.
  • Maintains records of money instruments received and/or returned.
  • Coordinates activities of E.H. Cooper trust fund.
  • Research records for the location of inmates in an effort to handle the mail properly.
  • Supervises the receiving and distribution of U.S. and department mail.
  • Supervises the activities of both incoming and outgoing mail and insure packages.
  • Plans and schedules work assignments and employee training.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
  • A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations with one (1) year of supervisory experience;
  • An associate degree or higher with one (1) year of supervisory experience may be substituted for the required work experience.
