Job description

Registered Nurse - Non Exempt

Provides professional procedural nursing care for patients following established standards and practices.

A Registered Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care within the Vascular Cath Lab for both pre and post office-based procedures. Provides pre-procedure nursing care and patient education, initiates and maintains parent eral conscious sedation, provides continuous cardiac and respiratory assessment during any vascular procedure that requires conscious sedation, identifies post-procedure complications and patient needs after the procedure, determining the need for physician and/or mid-level intervention, and discharges patients home.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Screening of patients to determine appropriate plan of care.
  • Provides direct patient care during pre-operative phase to include: complete patient assessment, peripheral intra-venous (PIV) start and maintenance, initial vitals signs, obtain signed consent, and discuss discharge instructions.
  • Provides direct patient care during intra-operative phase to include: continued assessment of vital signs, airway, and electrocardiogram monitoring, administration of IV medications (Versed, Fentanyl, Heparin, and more), and identifying, reporting, and assisting in any life threatening cardiac arrhythmias and/or any medical emergencies.
  • Provides direct patient care during post-operative phase to include: continued assessment of vital signs, airway, electrocardiogram monitoring, and incision site for signs and symptoms of complications (arterial bleed, hematoma, pseudoaneurysm), provide patient education, and discharge patient per provider orders.
  • Provides direct patient care for moderate sedation procedures.
  • Knowledge of Cath Lab equipment and supplies, cardiovascular medications including dosing, side effects, and drug interactions.
  • Provides assistance with management and preparation of patient rooms, instruments, and supplies.
  • Maintains patient workload and flow.
  • Maintain sterile environment and precautions.
  • Maintains and manages inventory of supplies.
  • Consults with patient care team including providers, managers, and staff as needed to ensure quality patient care.
  • Documents complete and accurate information into electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Reconciles medications and enters new medication orders into EMR.
  • Maintains ability to operate office and Cath Lab equipment and systems.
  • Conducts equipment quality assurance inspections and services as needed to maintain appropriate function.
  • Provides continuous education to patients and families on topics such as health educations, disease prevention, and health improvement programs.
  • Works independently and serves as resource for office staff within scope of practice.
  • Uses critical thinking skills and possesses a team-player attitude.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times and displays professional attitude and behavior.

Qualifications:

  • Current California Registered Nurse License.
  • Active ACLS/BLS certifications.
  • Familiarity with moderate sedation.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
  • Vascular and/or Wound Care experience; preferred but not required.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to commute to multiple locations in the course of the working day/week, based on staffing needs.
  • Must be able to remain in stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Able to bend and stoop repeatedly; Capable of lifting a minimum of least 25 pounds.
  • Frequently moves equipment and lift appropriate weight of up to 50 pounds; helps and position patients weighing up to 400 pounds.
  • Confident with difficult PIV starts.
  • Can provide a flexible work schedule with a minimum of four shifts/month.
  • Arrive to work on time and take breaks as scheduled by law.
