What are POS Software Developers?

POS Software Developers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain point-of-sale (POS) software systems used by businesses to process customer transactions. They work on both the front-end interfaces that retail staff interact with and the back-end systems that manage sales data, inventory, and integrations with payment gateways. Their role often involves troubleshooting technical issues, implementing security features, and ensuring the software is user-friendly and reliable. POS Software Developers may work for software companies, retail chains, or as independent consultants.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a POS Software Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a POS Software Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as Java, C#, or Python), experience with POS hardware integration, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with POS platforms (like Oracle Micros or Square), database management systems, and payment processing protocols is often required, and certifications in software development or security can be advantageous. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and addressing client needs. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure reliable, secure, and user-friendly POS solutions that support seamless business operations.

What are some common challenges Pos Software Developers face when integrating new payment technologies?

Pos Software Developers often encounter challenges when integrating new payment technologies, such as ensuring compatibility with existing hardware, complying with security standards like PCI DSS, and accommodating various payment types (e.g., NFC, mobile wallets, EMV chips). These integrations frequently require close collaboration with hardware vendors, QA teams, and security specialists to guarantee seamless transactions and protect sensitive data. Staying updated with the latest fintech trends and maintaining thorough documentation can help streamline the integration process.

Job description

About MealSuite

MealSuite builds end-to-end foodservice technology for healthcare and senior living organizations. Our mission is to help care teams deliver better dining experiences with less effort. We’re a fast-growing team working on meaningful problems that directly impact patient and resident care.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior QA (Touch/POS) to lead quality assurance efforts for our Point of Sale (POS) and touchscreen applications. This role will play a critical part in ensuring the reliability, performance, and usability of systems that are essential to daily customer operations.

You will take ownership of end-to-end testing strategies across software and hardware-integrated environments, ensuring high-quality releases across a wide range of devices and platforms. This role partners closely with Engineering, Product, and cross-functional teams to identify risks early, improve test coverage, and drive quality across the development lifecycle.

What You’ll Do

• Lead end-to-end testing for POS and touchscreen applications across functional, automation, and regression testing
• Design and maintain test coverage (manual and automated) aligned to system architecture and real-world usage
• Validate software and hardware interactions across POS devices and peripherals (printers, scanners, payment devices)
• Test across Windows, Android, and iOS environments, accounting for device and platform differences
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and QA teams to improve testability and ensure quality delivery
• Manage defects in Jira, including reporting, validation, and release readiness
• Identify risks, improve testing processes, and drive quality best practices

What You Bring

• 5+ years of experience in QA, including functional, integration, and end-to-end testing of complex systems
• Strong experience testing hardware-integrated systems such as POS devices, tablets, and peripherals
• Proven experience with cross-platform testing across Windows, Android, and iOS environments
• Deep understanding of manual and automated testing methodologies and frameworks
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with cross-functional teams
• Familiarity with CI/CD processes and DevOps fundamentals
• Strong experience with defect tracking and test management tools (e.g., Jira)
• Ability to analyze complex systems, identify risks, and ensure high-quality outcomes
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams

Why You’ll Love Working Here

• Unlimited paid time off – we trust our employees to create balance
• Retirement savings support – RRSP/401(k) matching at 100% up to 3%
• Health benefits – medical, dental, vision, life & disability insurance, and paid parental leave starting day one
• Work-life balance – 90%+ of employees feel supported by their leaders
• Equity program participation – share in MealSuite’s growth
• Career development opportunities – we support your long-term goals
• Purpose-driven work – our mission aligns with the values of 90%+ of employees

Compensation

$90,000 – $110,000 CAD
