Local Number Portability (LNP) Specialist

Location: Charlotte, NC


Department: Service Fulfillment / Voice Operations


Reports To: Service Fulfillment Voice Manager

Job Summary

The Local Number Portability (LNP) Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end porting of telephone numbers between telecommunications carriers. This role serves as the primary liaison between customers, internal operations teams, and external carriers to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant number porting activities. The LNP Specialist coordinates order processing, validates customer service records, resolves porting issues, and ensures adherence to FCC, NPAC, and carrier-specific requirements. This position plays a critical role in delivering exceptional customer experience while maintaining service continuity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Process and manage inbound and outbound local number portability (LNP) requests.
  • Submit, track, and coordinate port orders with carriers and service providers.
  • Review of Customer Service Records (CSR) and Letters of Authorization (LOA) for accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve port rejects, jeopardies, and escalation issues.
  • Coordinate port dates and service activation timelines with internal teams and customers.
  • Maintain accurate records within provisioning and ticketing systems.
  • Communicate status updates to customers, project managers, and operations teams.
  • Work closely with Voice Engineering, Service Delivery, Customer Success, and Carrier Relations teams.
  • Monitor industry regulations and carrier requirements related to number portability.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC, NPAC, and industry guidelines.
  • Generate porting activity reports and metrics for management.
  • Assist in process improvement initiatives to improve porting intervals and accuracy.
  • Support special projects and migrations involving large-scale number transitions.
  • Manage voice service disconnect orders from initiation through completion, ensuring accuracy and timely execution.

Qualifications

Required

  • 2-5 years of telecommunications provisioning, LNP, or voice operations experience.
  • Understanding of local number portability processes and carrier relationships.
  • Experience reviewing CSRs, LOAs, and firm order commitments (FOCs).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent customer communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred

  • Experience with NPAC, Salesforce, or telecom provisioning systems.
  • Knowledge of SIP, Hosted Voice, VoIP, PRI, and POTS services.
  • Experience supporting enterprise customer migrations.
  • Familiarity with telecom regulatory requirements.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Business, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
