Job description

Portico has an amazing opportunity to join our team as a Maintenance Technician! This position will be located at our apartment community, Saxon Woods, in McKinney, TX.
Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician supports the Maintenance Supervisor in maintaining the community’s physical integrity and ensuring resident satisfaction. This role completes service requests, performs preventive maintenance, prepares apartments for move-in, and maintains common areas and amenities in accordance with company standards and safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Service Requests amp; Repairs
  • Respond to and complete service requests within 24 hours, addressing issues such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, carpentry, and general repairs.
  • Communicate promptly with the Maintenance Supervisor regarding parts, vendor needs, or work that cannot be completed in-house.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies.
Community Maintenance amp; Curb Appeal
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of community exteriors, common areas, pools, and amenities.
  • Support daily trash control, lighting, signage, irrigation, and access gate maintenance.
  • Assist with weekend coverage as needed.
Preventive Maintenance amp; Make-Ready
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on interior and exterior systems (filters, smoke detectors, HVAC, lighting, etc.).
  • Complete make-ready tasks, including unit trash-out, repairs, painting, and inspection prior to move-in.
  • Ensure all work meets Portico quality standards and timelines.
Safety amp; Compliance
  • Follow all Portico safety, key control, and emergency response procedures.
  • Participate in monthly safety meetings and maintain OSHA/EPA compliance logs.
  • Report incidents, accidents, and property damage immediately.
Resident amp; Team Relations
  • Deliver excellent customer service and communicate repair status to residents.
  • Collaborate with on-site and corporate team members, vendors, and contractors professionally.
  • Attend daily and weekly staff meetings to stay informed on property goals and priorities.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or related trades.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Certifications: EPA and CPO certifications preferred; valid driver’s license and insurance required.
Skills:
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders and safety procedures.
  • Proficiency in OneSite, Yardi, or similar property management systems preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication a plus.
Physical amp; Work Environment
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs., climb ladders, and perform physical tasks daily.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, chemicals, and moderate noise levels.
  • Weekend, evening, and on-call shifts may be required.
