Job description

Citrin Cooperman's Portfolio Valuation (PV) practice provides independent fair value marks on illiquid alternative investments. Our clients are asset managers, BDCs, interval funds, private credit funds, and private equity sponsors. We value on the cadence each client reports on: daily, monthly, quarterly, or as requested. Our marks support client NAV reporting, ASC 820 compliance, and review by valuation committees and audit teams.
We are looking for a Manager to playing a leading role on PV engagements in the group. You will be a senior valuation expert on client relationships, lead project management, review the work of analysts and senior analysts, and defend conclusions as needed with clients and internal colleagues. You will also help grow the practice through proposals, referral relationships, and industry presence.
Portfolio valuation is the primary focus. You will also lead or support other valuation engagements as they come up, including fairness and solvency opinions, purchase price allocations, goodwill and intangible asset impairment testing, 409A valuations, and valuation support in litigation and dispute matters.
As a Manager in Portfolio Valuation, you will:
  • Assist senior leaders on recurring valuation engagements from scoping and staffing through delivery, including timelines, budgets, and fee estimates
  • Value securities across the capital structure, including private credit (unitranche, first lien, second lien, mezzanine), preferred and common equity, warrants, and structured instruments
  • Review models and conclusions prepared by analysts and senior analysts, including DCF, yield analysis, market multiples, precedent transactions, Black Scholes, OPM, PWERM, and backsolve
  • Serve as the day to day contact for clients
  • Present and defend marks to client contacts and/or external audit teams, and clearing review comments
  • Monitor credit quality and equity value trends across client portfolios, and raising issues ahead of the valuation date
  • Build repeatable valuation processes that hold up at higher reporting frequency, including daily and intra month marks
  • Train and develop analysts and senior analysts through technical review, direct feedback, and staffing decisions
  • Support practice growth through proposals, engagement letters, fee estimates, thought leadership, and conference presence, as needed

  • B.A., B.S., B.B.A., or Master's in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative discipline; MBA a plus
  • 5+ years of valuation experience, with meaningful time in portfolio valuation or illiquid securities valuation
  • CFA, ASA, or CPA; ABV or CVA also considered
  • Working knowledge of ASC 820, the AICPA PE/VC Valuation Guide, and IFRS 13
  • Track record reviewing and signing off on models and memos prepared by others
  • Experience as a primary client contact and defending valuation conclusions with external auditors
  • Experience managing, reviewing, and developing a team of analysts
  • Proficiency with Capital IQ, PitchBook, Bloomberg, Preqin, LCD, or Refinitiv
  • Clear, concise writing, with the ability to produce memos and reports that hold up under auditor review
  • Interest in business development and building relationships across the fund manager, audit, and placement community
  • Professional credential (CFA, ASA, etc) is strongly encouraged
