ABOUT MOBS FASHION
MOBS Fashion sells one-of-a-kind women's statement pieces from contemporary designer, vintage, and luxury brands - from Fendi to Anthropologie to dresses from the 70s. Our business is online only and currently on the Poshmark social media platform, which is a hybrid of Ebay and Instagram. Sales took off immediately, revenue grew another 375% in 8 months, and we gain 200 new followers a day. Shoppers want more of what we offer, so help us explore fresh ways to give it to them!

    Job Description

    The Design & Merchandising Intern will be our resident fashion industry expert on brands, styles, trends, as well as textiles, designers, and retailers. You are skilled at internet and academic research and already are (or aspire to be) a fashion encyclopedia. Sample responsibilities:

    • Prepare clothing for photos, dress and style mannequins
    • Select & style merchandise into outfits for social media and email outreach
    • Write and edit product descriptions and make pricing recommendations
    • Identify gaps in product assortment and help head buyer fill them
    • Inspect new merchandise and decide how to address damaged goods
    • Redesign or modify clothing and/or shop for fabric & sewing notions
    • Research and develop fashion, style, and textile-related guidance and work products.
    Qualifications
    • Knowledge of clothing terminology: construction, prints, aesthetic
    • Knowledge of textiles: terminology, pros/cons, proper cleaning/care
    • Knowledge of the fashion market landscape overall: major brands, retailers, and their customers
    • Enthusiasm for 50s-2000 vintage brands, sustainability, street style
    • Basic sewing and mending by hand - add button, re-tack hem, sew a bead or sequin etc.


    Top candidates:
    Speak fashion fluently.
    You can easily describe a garment, what type of woman might wear it and how, and be able to connect its aesthetic to other brands or trends.

    Know the luxury and contemporary designer market. You know luxury and contemporary designer/bridge/diffusion brands and what they are best known for. You could go easily go department by department naming brands found in a Saks Fifth Avenue. You can list brands available at Revolve.com, Shopbop, Anthropologie etc.

    Understand what modern women want in clothing. You can look at a garment and know if it will be popular. You can also envision what design changes would make an item more popular and sometimes execute those redesigns/alter pieces yourself.

    Have fashion education and/or retail experience. This role is intended for college and graduate students majoring in Fashion Design & Merchandising, Textile & Apparel Technology & Management, or a similar field. Recent graduates and retail sales associates wishing to transition to corporate roles are also welcome.

    Final job descriptions will be adjusted to showcase the strengths of each intern and to build a balanced team that can combine talents in-person and virtually to succeed while maintaining social distance.
