The Monument Police Department is seeking recruit, entry-level, academy graduate, and experienced lateral police officer applicants who are committed to professional policing, community trust, ethical service, and continuous improvement. Compensation Pathways

• Recruit Officer startingsalary:$66,335.06while attending or completing an approved law enforcement academy pathway.
• Police Officer after academy graduation:$70,315.16 upon successful academy graduation and appointment to police officer status.
• Lateral Police Officer startingsalary: $79,006.12for officers with three or more years ofColoradoPOST certification(orequivalency)andthree years ofprevious patrol experience with a civilian police department in the United States.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Enforce laws, regulations, and ordinances to maintain public safety and order.
• Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity.
• Respond to emergency calls, provide assistance, and handle incidents as needed.
• Conduct investigations, gather evidence, interview witnesses and victims, and make arrests when necessary.
• Prepare and submit detailed reports documenting incidents and actions.
• Testify in court proceedings as required.
• Conduct traffic enforcement, direct traffic, and investigate accidents.
• Provide crowd control at public events.
• Serve arrest and search warrants in routine and high-risk situations.
• Undertake community policing efforts, including crime prevention and public safety education.
• Collaborate with other officers, city departments, and law enforcement agencies.
• Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, while handling routine and emergency situations.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Colorado P.O.S.T certified, or proof of current attendance in a POST Academy, or similarly qualified as a police officer in another state or federal jurisdiction and eligible to obtain a Colorado Provisional Certification.
• Applicants must be in good standing with Colorado POST.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Possess or be able to obtain a Colorado Driver's License prior to employment.
• P.O.S.T certification, valid and in good standing.

Additional Qualifications:

• Applicants must have no convictions that would disqualify them from Colorado POST certification.
• Must have not used marijuana in the past 2 years, and any illegal Schedule I substances in the past 7 years.
• Must satisfactorily complete an oral board process, psychological evaluation, polygraph, and physical evaluation.

Physical Demands:

• Sitting and Mobility: Frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, run, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Sensory Requirements: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Hearing is required to distinguish between multiple sound levels, frequencies, tones, and tones of voice.
• Physical Strength: The job is classified under the Very Heavy physical demand category, which involves exerting over 100 lbs. of force occasionally, over 50 lbs. frequently, and over 20 lbs. constantly to move objects.

Work Environment:

• Personal Danger: Potential exposure to personal danger, including armed or dangerous individuals and animals, and situations involving contagious or communicable diseases. There are hazards associated with emergency driving, vehicular surveillance, traffic control, working in and around traffic, natural and man-made disasters, and the use and operation of electrical or microwave-powered equipment.
• Weather Exposure: Exposure to all types of weather, including extreme conditions.
• Light Conditions: Exposure to varying light conditions, including all lighting extremes during both day and night, with and without artificial light, both indoors and outdoors.
• Noise Level: The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy.

• Proximity to Hazards: The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, in high or precarious places, and with explosives. There may be exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
