Job description

Position Summary
The City of St. Peters is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team as Police Dispatchers. This critical role serves as the primary communications link between the public and emergency services. The Police Dispatcher is responsible for efficiently receiving, prioritizing, and dispatching calls for service to ensure public safety and effective response coordination.
Normal Shift: Varies across three shifts and will include weekends and holidays.
Essential Functions
  • Receive and prioritize incoming calls for police and other emergency services.
  • Dispatch appropriate response resources using the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Prioritizes calls and dispatches appropriate response resource(s).
  • Monitor and operate alarm systems, Teletype communications, and video/audio equipment.
  • Track personnel and vehicles in real-time, ensuring accurate and clear communication.
  • Maintain detailed records of transmissions and activities according to departmental and FCC guidelines.
  • Enter, update, and manage data in computer databases.
  • Research and provide essential information using computerized databases and other data sources.
  • Monitor individuals in holding cells, booking rooms and secure areas to ensure safety, proper conduct, and medical or other needs using video and audio equipment.
  • Monitors building security by limiting access to entrances.
  • Perform clerical duties to support communication activities.
  • Notify appropriate authorities or departments of issues needing attention after hours.
  • Address and respond to resident and customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with established City safety standards.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
  • High School graduate or GED certificate and three (3) years of applicable experience.
  • Must be certified in criminal justice databases or obtain within six (6) months of employment. (MULES/REJIS)
  • Must be able to type 30 cwpm.
