Job description

Job Overview:This position is responsible for the oversight and supervision of the delivery of professional nursing care and services to residents following the established policies and procedures of Ridgecrest Village/Crest Health Center on his/her respective shift. This position will supervise and assist as needed the Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants within the Crest Health Center to assure that all resident care needs meet high-quality standards and comply with all local, state and federal regulations. This person shall also serve as part of the Crest leadership team, filling in for any absences of the DON as deemed necessary, and helping serve as a unified team alongside the leadership of the DON. This position shall also be included in the on-call rotation with other leadership positions.General Responsibilities:Oversees the facilityโ€™s 2nd shift to assure resident care is delivered according to facility policies and procedures while meeting all local, state and federal regulationsConduct ongoing routine rounds throughout each shiftAssist in reviewing written/verbal orders from physicians to ensure accuracy in all ordersHelp monitor all laboratory reports, recognize abnormal values and ensure appropriate persons and/or physician are informedShall oversee any admissions occurring on second shift, assuring a smooth and welcoming transition for the new resident as well as overseeing (and assisting as needed) the nursing admission processAssures nursing staff are performing necessary cares and treatments as orderedShall perform staff competencies on 2nd shift staff and assist DON with probationary and annual staff evaluationsAssists in providing education to staff regarding identified issues and care concernsServes as a supervisor, mentor and leader to 2nd shift staff, answering questions, intervening in any identified issues/situations, etc.Oversight of any resident transfers to hospital, resident incidents and/or injuries, resident complaints occurring on 2nd shiftDemonstrates competency in skills mandated by required education and trainingProvides reports to and serves on facility QAPI Committee as requestedServes as an integral part of the clinical nurse management team in a supervisory capacity.Makes recommendations for improvements in the facilityโ€™s processes and operations.Provide after hour tours of facility to prospective residents and/or their familiesPerforms other duties as assigned.Job Qualifications:Completion of a nursing program at an accredited school of nursing. (Required)Current license with the State of Iowa as a Registered Nurse or LPN. (Required)Experience with Microsoft programs and Point Click Care. (Preferred)Must have a minimum of two years experience in a long term care setting (Required)Must have at least one year supervisory experience (Preferred)Skills/Aptitude:Desire to enrich resident lives.Must possess patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a cheerful disposition.Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.Must possess the knowledge, skill, and empathy necessary to work with geriatric residents and their families.Must possess the mental and physical capabilities to fulfill the duties of this position.Must be able to continually articulate clearly and precisely and communicate with persons of varying backgrounds and cultures.General Qualifications:Willingness to be open to learning and growing.Maturity of judgment and behavior.Maintains high standards for work areas and appearance.Maintains a positive attitude.Ability to work a flexible schedule helpful.Must comply with any dress code requirements.Must be able willing to be on an โ€œon callโ€ nursing management clinical rotation which may require off hour work. Also participate in facility/community special events outside of the routine work days/hours from time to time.Attends work and shows up for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity.Physical Requirements:Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.Must possess sufficient physical stamina to allow for lifting, pushing, and pulling of residents or other objects weighing up to 75 lbs.Requires the ability to sit and walk on a frequent basis. Requires the ability to stand, climb stairs, twist, stoop/bend at the waist.Reaching at, or below shoulders on an occasional basis and manipulation of objects with one or both hands is required.Working Conditions:Performs work in a customary health care and resident care environment where there is occasional exposure to biohazards and noise and rare exposure to toxic chemicals.Safety Requirements:All employees are expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of residents, other employees, and the facility.
