Our Opportunity:
The Project Management Office within Schwab's Client Service & Support (CS&S) organization enables leaders across the service organization to explore and set strategy, prioritize investments, and executes against initiatives that achieve organizational objectives.
What you'll do:
As a Director in the Project Management Office, you will lead a team of CS&S project managers and drive the flow and execution of work for one or more portfolios within CS&S by developing and managing integrated delivery plans, proactively managing risks, dependencies, feasibility, and capacity constraints. You will remove obstacles to drive momentum, apply sound delivery judgment, and ensure leaders have clear visibility into progress, risks, and tradeoffs.
This role will report to the Director, Project Management Office - Client Service and Support.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and lead a high-performing team of project managers. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and Reinforce Best Practices: Define, implement and reinforce PMO standards, tools, and methodologies to ensure consistency, transparency, and accountability across all projects.
  • Change Leadership: Champion change management and promote adoption of new processes, tools, and governance models throughout the organization.
  • Portfolio Relationship Management: Oversee portfolio strategy and execution by managing work intake, prioritization, interdependencies, risks, resources, and change decisions to maximize business value. Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and sponsors, influencing decisions and fostering cross-functional alignment to achieve successful outcomes
  • Program or Project Delivery: Owns end-to-end delivery mechanics for assigned initiatives, including delivery plans, milestones, dependencies, and commitments that reflect current scope and ensure predictable execution and outcomes
  • Risk and Issue Management: Proactively identifies, manages, and mitigates risks, issues, and cross-functional dependencies, surfacing tradeoffs and recommendations early to enable informed leadership decisions.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Effectively partners with technology, product, and delivery leaders to align execution approaches with business outcomes
  • Stakeholder Influence: Proactively manage and influence stakeholders, anticipating objections and adapting communication styles accordingly.
  • Process Improvement: Support the identification of execution inefficiencies across assigned initiatives and introduce practical, scalable improvements to enhance delivery effectiveness, consistency, and transparency.
  • Adaptability: Navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities without losing momentum.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site 4 days a week in the specified location(s).
What you have
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of project/program management experience, including at least 3 years managing complex cross-functional efforts in a strategic or transformational context.
  • 5+ years in leadership roles with a proven track record of coaching and developing talent
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and drive alignment across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Proven track record of managing executives and aligning stakeholder groups.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching delivery partners, contributing to improved project management practices, execution consistency, and delivery maturity across the organization
  • Deep understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and industry best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Preferred work experience in financial services industry, corporate strategy, consulting or like industry.
  • High Proficiency with MS Office Products and adjacent tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, think cell, etc.).
  • Experience with Project Management software (Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Power BI, etc.).
  • Proven ability to write clearly, succinctly, and in a manner that appeals to a wide audience
  • Personally, and professionally aligned with Schwab's vision and values, and a strong interest in financial services
  • BA/BS Degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • FINRA Series 7, 63 (or 66) licenses
  • Demonstrated experience with Smartsheet
  • Experience building project governance frameworks and reporting tools.
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of project management tools (e.g., SharePoint, MS Projects, Confluence).
