POSITION SUMMARY

Hunt Forest Products is seeking an experienced plywood Production Shift Supervisor to safely run and operate the Green End. Shift Supervisors are responsible for meeting safety requirements, production goals and quality expectations. This will be achieved by professionally training and leading a shift crew; exercising proper safety procedures; optimizing productivity; monitoring equipment and wood quality and maintaining production goals/KPIs.

The Shift Supervisor instructs employees on safe and productive work habits. Takes time to ensure proper reporting and recording of maintenance, safety, and environmental issues.

Primary challenges to this position include meeting production targets, maintaining staffing requirements within budget, meeting quality guidelines and maintaining alignment between all departments through effective communication.

The position has the authority to train and direct the workforce within the prescribed policies, procedures, and regulations of the operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety

Ensure the production line operates in a safe manner in accordance to work safe rules, regulations, and policies.

Professionally and enthusiastically works with all staff and employees to recognize and eliminate safety hazards.

Ensure employees are trained, developed and led in safe work practices; and remain compliant with procedures and policies (especially, but not exclusively lock out/tag out and Hot Work policies)

Ensure that all aspects of the mill's established safety program are delivered to employees in a timely and effective manner

Communicate with crew on topics of safety, continuous improvement opportunities, and direction of department

People Leadership

Support employee development and engagement through coaching, feedback and performance management.

Oversee the day-to-day activities of team and their work product.

Responsible for the training and development of team members.

Use fair and positive leadership to train and develop team to deliver safe, consistent and timely results.

Professionally communicates with team, supervisors, plant management and other staff to ensure strong business ties and continuity.

Operational

Through effective leadership meet or exceed product quality and shift production goals.

Coordinate product to machines by proper instruction and follow-up monitoring.

Work closely with maintenance department to ensure safe and complete repairs are made when needed

Ensure machinery settings, spreads and requested product schedules are achieved on a regular basis so as to maintain optimum production and product quality.

Provide the necessary information input to generate accurate and complete shift production and safety reports.

Accurately completes reports, investigations, required forms and other documentation in a timely manner.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum 3 years production experience, or equivalent, as a leader of teams.

Knowledge of plywood manufacturing processes and equipment

Proven leadership ability

Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills

Effective communication and computer skills

Environmental Conditions

Work is performed in an industrial mill environment. This includes working at heights requiring the use of ladders, platform and lifting machinery. Work is often performed in tight, dirty, oily areas including confined spaces. Overall, the mill is exposed to outdoor temperatures where extreme heat and cold will be a condition of work.

This position requires full availability due to required shift rotations that include days, nights, weekends, and holiday.
