This position is located on site in Annapolis Junction, MD.
Job Overview
The Plumber assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes; studies building plans and drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. The Plumber maintains various mechanical supply and drains lines; to include clearing clogged lines, repair or replacement of plumbing fixtures, conduct preventative maintenance on pumps, water filters, water heaters, high and low pressure steam lines, gas lines, gas meters, gas fixtures, gas regulators, vessels, drains and other plumbing appliances
Pay Rate: $37.36 / hour
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace and maintain all plumbing and its associated components, i.e. waterless urinals, eye washing/safety showers, floor drains, sinks, tubs, toilets, urinals, basins, faucets, lavatories, water fountains, showers, garbage disposals, etc.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace and maintain all water heaters (gas, electric, steam) and associated control and safety devices.
  • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools, cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine, bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe bending machine, or other means.
  • Assembles and installs valves, pipefittings, and pipes composed of metals.
  • Perform backflow preventer testing and repairs.
  • Perform all functions with a professional demeanor and be customer oriented.
  • Performs basic electrical wiring for water heaters, pumps and control devices.
  • Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models, and verbal and written instructions.
  • Performs tasks timely, accurately, and completely.
  • Respond to emergency site maintenance as required.
  • Performs on call and preventive maintenance duties.
  • Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
  • Performs periodic stock inventories to prepare material requisitions for replacement.
  • Operates customer and company motor vehicles and/or other equipment in a safe manner.
  • Performs various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain warehouse space and telephone answering as required.
  • Supports and assists other department staff and trade groups as needed or directed.
  • Adheres to the established safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including supporting CMMS and other departments

Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • At least five (5) years' experience in the plumbing field and maintenance trade.
  • Possess a valid Journeyman Plumbing license or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Backflow Prevention certificate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety precautions and processes, i.e. PPE, lockout/tagout, etc.
  • Ability to obtain Backflow Certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Possess and maintain or obtain within 6 months and maintain the Hepatitis B vaccination.
  • Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable plumbing codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with basic mathematical functions as required.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Ability to pass a pre-hire drug and background screen.
  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community level clearance.
  • U. S. Citizenship.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work overtime and other shifts as needed.

Preferred:
  • Possess the required security clearance.
  • Possess backflow preventer certification.
  • Ability and willingness to join Emergency Response Team which requires annual Respirator FIT test

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds individually and team lift up to 75 pounds.
