Job description


The Cardiovascular Technologist works under the supervision of Director. The Cardiovascular Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, properly documenting all chronologically procedural events, analytical calculations, medications, equipment set up and operation, and instrumentation. Assists the physician during sterile procedures and assumes responsibility for completion of other functions as assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Assists provider with cardiovascular procedures by scrubbing, and/or first assisting to achieve optimal patient care.
  • Maintains knowledge/expertise of all cardiovascular procedures and team functions, of instruments and supplies used for electrophysiology and interventional cardiovascularvascular procedures, and to provide input for equipment purchase and maintain a cost-effective inventory.
  • Maintains and monitors aseptic technique to reduce risk of surgical site infection as well as contamination of peers.
  • Assists with safely transporting patients preoperative to the procedure room, positioning of patients for the
  • procedure and transporting to post-procedure area.
  • Labels medications on the sterile field, and communicates to surgeon.
  • Maintains knowledge and expertise of cardiovascular equipment and supplies to provide input for equipment purchase and
  • maintain a cost-effective inventory.
  • Maintains a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology of the vascular service.
  • Contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others ﴾example: students, orientees﴿.
  • Collaborates and maintains a positive attitude with other members of the interdisciplinary team to achieve the patient's expected outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned per professional licensure

Education
  • Successful completion of ARRT, RCIS, EMT, LPN or RN - Required
  • Associate's Degree - Preferred

Work Experience
  • 2 Years - In lieu of above, working in Cath Lab, OR, or Special Procedures. - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) - Preferred Upon Hire Or
  • Registered Technologist (R.T.) - Preferred Upon Hire Or
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Preferred Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required Upon Hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Required Upon Hire

Essential Technical/Motor Skills
  • Ability to handle instrumentation; fine motor skills, eye/hand coordination, handle endoscopic equipment, manipulate suture material, walk, ability to speak clearly, hear, answer phone, data entry.
  • Ability to input computer data by typing information.
  • Must be able to calibrate equipment using fine motor skills.
  • Must also possess fine motor skills and use precise eye/hand coordination to manipulate small equipment.
  • Need to be able to speak articulately to patients, families, physicians and peers.

Interpersonal Skills
  • Exceptional - ability to work as a team.
  • Must build rapport with patient families, visitors, peers and physicians as well as other departments and divisions.

Essential Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to go from patient location to patient location, must be able to occasionally turn the average weight of an adult bedridden patient and ambulate patients who are recovering from surgery.
  • Must move, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, and lift.
  • Must follow good body mechanics.
  • Ability to lift/move patients and equipment (100-200 lbs.).
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time (2-3 hrs.) while wearing 20 lb. lead apron during procedure.
  • Pushing/pulling beds with patients in them (150-200 lbs.) to transport to room.
  • Reaching (4-5 ft.) to move patient and above head to reposition lights.
  • Balancing/climbing (3-4 ft.) hold pressure on patient and to perform CPR.
  • Stooping/bending to plug in equipment and to position patient during procedure. Also to mop floors after procedure.
  • Ability to operate equipment.

Essential Mental Abilities
  • Ability to transfer knowledge from case to case; Anticipate needs of surgeon based on past experience, Problem solve, manipulate numbers, adaptability, interpret data, calculate, comprehend, understand, explain, assess, evaluate short term and long term memory.

Essential Sensory Requirements
  • Ability to visually assess sterile field and recognize breaks in asepsis; must be able to communicate team members.
  • Visual, hearing, feeling, smell.
  • Ability to listen to patient verbalize, physicians' instructions and hear alarms; evaluate skin temp, feel pulse and feel resistance in guidewire.

Exposure to Hazards
  • Needles, cuts, back injury, chemotherapy, body fluids, blood, punctures, scratches, physical injury from combative patients, radiation exposure, blood products, road and weather hazards when driving required.
  • Infection/disease exposure from patients, visitors, and co-workers.

Other Skills and Abilities
  • Utilize excellent customer service and teamwork skills portraying a ""Yes I can"" attitude congruent with patient treatment plan.
  • Follows RESPECT document at all times.
  • Completes competencies and all other requirements.
  • Must be able to respond to life-threatening situations.
