Job description

Purpose of Position/Summary:
The Project Lead the Way Instructional Assistant will provide an innovative and creative commitment to STEM education at our school. We are looking for an instruction with an overall passion for STEM, project-based, as well as problem-based learning with real world applications. The instructor will help all students acquire the course level objectives set forth in the National PLTW Curriculum.
The position involves a high level of collaboration with two teachers within the assigned grade level and a commitment to student achievement. The IA is responsible for evaluating student assessment data to plan instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners. Differentiated instruction and flexible grouping are an integral part of the expectations for this position. The IA is also responsible for maintaining individualized communication with parents and assisting with parent teacher conferences twice yearly to ensure the highest level of service to our students.
Job Requirements:
  • Assist with creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and develops workplace attitudes
  • Prepare course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of PLTW, state, and school.
  • Assign lessons, score student work and provide them with positive feedback and constructive criticism on assignments
  • Provide instruction of PLTW courses including computer application, design and modeling and robotics
  • Differentiate instruction to meet individual student learning styles
  • Utilize a learning management system for the instruction of PLTW courses
  • Administers tests to evaluate student's progress, record results, and issues reports or conducts meetings to inform parents of progress
  • Communicate regularly with parents and provide opportunities for parent involvement
  • Help manage the behavioral, social, and emotional issues of a diverse ethnic student population
  • Demonstrates competence in Google Apps for Education and Chromebooks
  • Serves as a resource for administration, helping to develop a program that serves the needs of students and stays relevant as new technologies develop
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:
  • Candidate must posses 60 credit hours or an associate degree or pass the PRAXIS Paraprofessional Exam
  • PLTW certification preferred or willing to work toward certification (PLTW coursework will be paid for)
  • Experience working with at-risk student populations preferred
  • Must be flexible and hardworking, dedicated to the success of students in an urban school setting
