Job description

 PLTW Teacher, Middle School. 

Position Summary

Carroll Middle School is seeking an innovative, student-centered PLTW STEM/Engineering Teacher to inspire curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. This position provides students with opportunities to explore engineering design, technology, mathematics, and real-world applications while developing critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.

The ideal candidate has a strong mathematics and/or science background and a passion for helping middle school students develop confidence as problem solvers and innovators through project-based learning. Teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach PLTW courses.
  • Design and facilitate engaging, hands-on, project-based learning experiences that integrate engineering, mathematics, science, and technology.
  • Guide students through the engineering design process to solve authentic, real-world problems.
  • Foster creativity, innovation, collaboration, and critical thinking in a student-centered classroom environment.
  • Utilize instructional technology, engineering tools, and emerging technologies to enhance student learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, and developmental needs of middle school learners.
  • Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies and communicate student progress effectively.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and elective teachers to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues while contributing to a positive school culture.
  • Participate in professional learning to remain current with best practices in STEM education and instructional technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Indiana teaching license in mathematics or science or the ability to obtain appropriate licensure. Candidate would also be trained on the PLTW curriculum.
  • Strong background in mathematics with the ability to integrate mathematical concepts into engineering and STEM instruction.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles, coding, robotics, makerspace technologies, or related STEM fields.
  • Experience facilitating project-based learning and collaborative student-centered instruction.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for inspiring middle school students to explore STEM pathways and develop skills for future college and career success.
