About The Role

The Network Industries Strategies ("NIS") group at FTI Consulting uses economic and financial analysis and market modeling to analyze complex issues involving pricing, valuation, sustainability, and costs of service across the spectrum of network industries. Our energy team delivers data-driven insights on U.S. power and natural gas markets that support strategic planning, long-term resource planning, asset transactions and due diligence, quantitative policy analysis, regulatory filings, and expert testimony. We combine deep market knowledge with best-in-class simulation methods and data - including capacity expansion planning and production cost modeling - to help utilities, energy project developers, financial institutions, technology companies, trade groups, and government agencies make critical decisions in the face of uncertain energy market and policy outcomes.

What You'll Do

A Consultant is responsible for managing, processing, and analyzing information to develop solutions for external clients. In addition, the position requires the development of written reports explaining the procedures employed. A successful individual in the position will be able to work independently and to take initiative in solving problems that are faced on a day-to-day basis, continually striving to ensure quality output that can withstand the scrutiny of litigation. Primary duties will include:

  • Performing quantitative analyses and conduct studies as required by internal and external clients.

  • Developing and managing database systems from large datasets.

  • Developing proficiency in modeling frameworks, either maintained by NIS or by third-parties.

  • Assisting others in defining data requirements for various efforts.

  • Communicating findings with clients and external stakeholders.

  • Writing memoranda to describe the procedures employed to complete tasks and to summarize the results of research or analysis.

  • Maintaining workpapers if they are deemed required.

  • Maintaining time and expenses.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need to Succeed

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Business, Information Systems, Mathematics, Operations Research, or Management Sciences.

  • 1 + years of post-graduation professional work experience in consulting, professional services or related field.

  • Ability to travel to FTI offices and client(s).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with computer software packages, such as SQL, Tableau, Excel, and Access.

  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS).

  • Experience with PLEXOS, REMI, or IMPLAN.

  • Understanding or interest in railroads, energy, other network industries, or public policy.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple time-sensitive, detail-oriented projects, effectively prioritizing competing deadlines, and communicating clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Minimum Pay: $81,500
Maximum Pay: $111,500
