How much do playwright jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 21, 2026, the average hourly pay for playwright in Michigan is $13.15, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $11.30 and $14.23 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a playwright do?

A Playwright is a writer who creates scripts for theatrical performances, including dialogue, stage directions, and character development. They craft compelling stories that engage audiences, working independently or in collaboration with directors and producers. Playwrights may also revise their scripts based on rehearsals and feedback to enhance the production. Their work can range from original plays to adaptations of existing works.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a playwright?

To thrive as a Playwright, you need excellent creative writing skills, an understanding of dramatic structure, and familiarity with theatre history and literature, often supported by a background in English, creative writing, or theatre arts. Experience with scriptwriting software like Final Draft or Celtx is common, though formal certifications are less typical unless pursuing academic roles. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to accept feedback are vital for collaborating with directors, actors, and production teams. These abilities ensure plays are not only well-crafted but also feasible for production and resonate with audiences.

What are the typical stages of developing a play, and how much collaboration is involved?

Developing a play usually involves several stages: initial scriptwriting, multiple rounds of revision based on feedback, workshops or staged readings to test material, and further edits before full production. Playwrights frequently collaborate with directors, dramaturgs, and sometimes actors, especially during workshops and rehearsals, to refine the script and ensure it translates well on stage. This collaborative process helps ensure that the final script aligns with the creative vision of the team and is practical for live performance. Being open to feedback and adaptation is essential for successfully bringing a script from initial draft to stage-ready production.

Is playwright in demand now?

The demand for playwrights varies by region and industry, but overall, opportunities exist in theater, film, and television. Success often depends on a strong portfolio, networking, and the ability to adapt to different media formats. Competition can be high, and freelance or contract work is common in this field.

Ford Motor Company

Job description

We made history and now we work to transform the future - for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.

Enterprise Technology plays a critical part in shaping the future of mobility. If you're looking for the chance to leverage advanced technology to redefine the transportation landscape, enhance the customer experience and improve people's lives, this is the opportunity for you. Join us and challenge your IT expertise and analytical skills to help create vehicles that are as smart as you are.

In this position...

Ford Credit is seeking a highly driven, collaborative, and analyticalEnd-to-End (E2E) Test Engineer / SDETto join our Enterprise Testing team. This is a crucial role in which you will act as the technical lead between our UI clients, partner platforms, and our backend infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration and functionality across our complex lending platforms.

You must be a self-starter capable of mapping out and dissecting intricate processes, from the moment a dealer submits a loan application to the final backend data storage, all the way from inception to repayment, which includes multiple diverse systems until data flows to the data warehouse for reporting.

If you are an exceptional communicator who can proactively drive quality initiatives, partner across architecture, product, and engineering teams, and figure out exactly how systems communicate under the hood, we want you on our team.

What you'll do...

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Actively partner with Business, Architecture, Product, Design, and Software Engineering teams to align testing activities with business acceptance criteria and architectural realities.
  • Journey Validation: Participate in and help facilitate mandatory "Cross-Functional Journey Review & Sign-Off" ceremonies to attest that all business-critical paths, edge cases, and transitional states are documented and tested.
  • Drive Quality Initiatives: Take a proactive, self-driven approach to identifying gaps in test coverage. Drive E2E quality initiatives, ensuring the testing strategy shifts left and adheres to the Testing Pyramid.
  • Full-Stack Analysis: Analyze business requirements to identify and map end-to-end user journeys (e.g., the complete Loan Origination flow) from the WebUI, through the Orchestration layer, down to backend dependencies.
  • Test Automation: Design, build, and refactor scalable automated tests for both UI and API-based E2E scenarios using Playwright. Create reusable libraries to ensure zero code duplication.
  • System Integration: Validate system interoperability, data flows, and API contracts between modern microservices and legacy systems.
  • Pipeline Integration: Integrate and maintain automated test suites within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., CloudBuild) to run on demand against selected cloud platforms (LambdaTest).
  • Data Migration & TDM: Validate complex data transformations (e.g., DB2 to PostgreSQL migrations). Work alongside Test Data Management (TDM) strategies to utilize masked, synthetic data for realistic test scenarios without exposing PII.
  • Squad Collaboration: Collaborate tightly with Stream-Aligned Teams (in-sprint testers) to transfer knowledge, review execution results, and prioritize testing based on risk and business impact.

You'll have...

  • Core Engineering: Strong programming background in Java and experience with build management tools (Gradle, Maven).
  • Test Automation: Expert-level knowledge of UI automation (Playwright) and API testing (Playwright, Postman, Hoppscotch). Experience with BDD frameworks (Cucumber/Gherkin).
  • System Architecture: Deep understanding of how processes work end-to-end from both a UI and backend perspective. Experience testing Orchestration layers (GraphQL) and microservices.
  • Cloud & CI/CD: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP) and CI/CD version control (GitHub, CloudBuild).
  • Testing Methodologies: Strong understanding of functional, integration, E2E, and regression testing. Experience executing tests across multiple environments (SIT, UAT, PreProd).
  • FinTech Experience: Experience in Financial Services, specifically understanding the Loan Lifecycle (Originations and Receivables), if you have worked with FiServ banking services, that is a big plus (DNA and Creative Digital).
  • Contract Testing: Knowledge of API contract validation methodologies to ensure compatibility between front-end clients and the orchestration layer.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate highly technical backend processes to product owners and business stakeholders.
  • Self-Driven: Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and proactiveness. Ability to work independently, drive initiatives, and handle shifting priorities in a fast-paced Agile/Kanban/SAFe environment.
  • Problem Solving: Exceptional debugging and analytical skills with a strong user-centric mindset.

Even better, you may have...

  • Familiarity with enterprise testing and test management tools (Jira, Xray, Confluence).
  • Experience with cloud execution grids (LambdaTest).
  • Knowledge of Contract Testing tools (PACTFlow) and Test Data Management tools (Tonic.ai, Masking Engines).
  • Familiarity with automotive finance platforms such as Alfa Systems and RouteOne.
  • Extra plus is knowledgeable on FiServ products.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder...or all of the above?
