Playwright Assistant information

What is a playwright assistant?

Playwright Assistants are professionals who support playwrights in the process of creating and developing theatrical scripts. Their duties can include conducting research, organizing script drafts, providing feedback, coordinating with directors and actors, and assisting during rehearsals. They help streamline the creative process, ensuring that playwrights can focus on writing while the logistical and administrative tasks are managed efficiently. Playwright Assistants often work in theaters, production companies, or as freelancers. This role is an excellent entry point for those interested in theater production and script development.

How does a playwright assistant typically collaborate with writers and directors during the development of a new script?

As a Playwright Assistant, you will work closely with both the playwright and the director to support the creative process. This often involves taking detailed notes during rehearsals, providing feedback on script drafts, facilitating communication between the writing team and cast, and managing script revisions. Your role is crucial in ensuring that the playwright's vision is clearly communicated and that any changes are accurately incorporated. Effective collaboration, adaptability, and strong communication skills are essential, as you'll often serve as a bridge between creative and production teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a playwright assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Playwright Assistant, you need strong writing, editing, and research skills, often supported by a background in literature, theater, or creative writing. Familiarity with script formatting software such as Final Draft and proficiency in document management tools are typically required. Outstanding organization, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly with creative teams are crucial soft skills. These abilities are important because they enable seamless support for the playwright, ensuring scripts are accurate, deadlines are met, and creative processes run smoothly.

  • Drive quality and operability through automated testing (unit/component/e2e), accessibility compliance, performance optimization, and UI telemetry/monitoring.
  • Build and improve CI/CD for UI delivery (linting, automated tests, quality gates, build optimization, release automation) and reduce flaky tests.
  • Use JPMorganChase-approved AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude AI where approved) to accelerate refactoring, feature changes, test generation, and documentation with rigorous human validation.
  • Leverages enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity across complex deliverables (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; contributes learnings and reusable patterns to improve broader team effectiveness.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
  • Produces architecture and design artifacts for complex applications while being accountable for ensuring design constraints are met by software code development
  • Gathers, analyzes, synthesizes, and develops visualizations and reporting from large, diverse data sets in service of continuous improvement of software applications and systems

  • Proven experience designing and delivering accessible, performant UIs (WCAG awareness, profiling, bundle optimization).
  • Proven experience implementing and improving CI/CD for front-end applications with automated quality gates.
  • Disciplined experience using AI coding assistants (Claude AI or equivalent where approved) with verification and secure usage practices.
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices.
  • Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with design systems at scale (component libraries, theming/tokens, governance) and cross-team adoption.
  • Experience with modern UI architecture patterns (micro-frontends/module federation, SSR frameworks such as Next.js, BFF patterns).
  • Experience with web observability (RUM, client logging, correlation with backend signals) and feature-flag driven delivery.
  • Track record reducing defect escape and flaky tests, improving release confidence and developer productivity.
