Job description

MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school plus one (1) year experience in construction and building maintenance work; operation of equipment and/or construction of street and drainage related projects; building, ground, landscaping, irrigation maintenance. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have and maintain an acceptable, safe driving record. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Must be able to use hand tools, read simple blueprints and schematics.

Must possess trade skills in one or more of the following: carpentry, plumbing, masonry; landscaping, street construction and irrigation systems. CDL SPECIAL REQUIREMENT (5% SPECIALTY PAY) In addition to the above Minimum Training and Experience and Special Requirement, must possess a valid State of Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and have and maintain an acceptable, safe driving record. EMERGENCY DECLARATION STATUS Code 1: Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared emergency and/or declared emergency.

On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee's Department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work. GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under general supervision, working independently, or as part of a crew, performs routine to moderately skilled work in the maintenance, repair, cleaning, and upkeep of city parks, trails, athletic complexes, playgrounds, public buildings and facilities. Work includes landscaping, groundskeeping, custodial tasks, inspections, minor facility repairs, athletic field preparation, irrigation system support and setup or breakdown for city events and athletic play.

Employees operate hand tools, power tools, lawn and landscape equipment, small machinery and utility vehicles. Work may require evening, weekend, or holiday assignments and employees must use tact and courtesy when interacting with the public and coworkers. Reports to the assigned parks and facilities superintendent or supervisor.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Essential duties include performing mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, litter and debris removal, trash collection and general landscape maintenance across parks, trails, athletic complexes, dog parks, pavilions and public facilities. May be responsible for loading and unloading equipment, tools, materials and delivering materials and supplies to job sites. Athletic field responsibilities include preparing baseball, softball, football, soccer and multipurpose fields by raking and dragging infields, adding clay, placing bases and goals, lining fields, assisting with turf repairs and sod replacement, and maintaining fences, backstops, dugouts, bullpens, and batting cages.

Set up and break down fields, facilities, and equipment for games, tournaments, practices and special events. Assists with installing, assembling and maintaining playground equipment, picnic tables, grills, benches, shelters, trash enclosures, park signs and other amenities, as well as assisting with safety inspections and promptly reporting hazards or damaged equipment. May assist with painting, surface preparation, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, repair fences, gates, sidewalks, concrete pads, pavilion components, roofs and other amenities.

Assists with the installation, inspection and maintenance of irrigation systems by identifying and reporting leaks, faulty components, or dry areas and completing basic repairs as directed. Performs custodial cleaning of restrooms, pavilions, event spaces, offices and facility interiors and exteriors, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, pressure washing and restocking supplies. Administrative duties include completing daily logs, reports, work order updates, inventory documentation, performing special assignments and all other related tasks as directed.

These functions may require the use of software applications and IT devices. May be assigned to shift work. May be required to work weekends and holidays.

May be required to respond to after hour calls. CDL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS In addition to the above, employee drives diesel and non-diesel trucks to haul gravel, dirt and concrete; operates various types of heavy equipment utilized by the Department, such as heavy dump trucks and bulldozers. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs other related work as required.
