Job description

KOMPAN U.S. is looking for a detail-oriented and technically proficient Construction Estimator, with future potential as a Chief Estimator, to join our pre-sales team.

The Construction Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for a variety of construction projects, with a focus on technical quantity take-offs, quote preparation, and subcontractor coordination. This role is critical in ensuring competitive and profitable project bids by leveraging knowledge, construction methods, and market pricing.

As a global leader with an organizational focus on people, passion, progress, and performance, our mission is to create healthier and happier communities by delivering the best in play and fitness solutions. Weโ€™re KOMPAN - letโ€™s play!

Who We Are

For more than 50 years, KOMPAN has researched, designed, and built innovative and imaginative commercial playground equipment and outdoor fitness sites that captivate all ages and abilities.

In collaboration with our global headquarters in Denmark, KOMPAN designs, manufactures, and installs more than 1,000 sites a month across 90 different countries. Our North American headquarters, located in Austin, Texas, supports field sales around the U.S. and Canada.

At KOMPAN, we take pride in our commitment to the global environment. We exceed sustainability efforts and make it possible to lower carbon emissions by utilizing recycled ocean waste, consumer-recycled plastics, and textile waste to create playgrounds that are born green or made green.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and scopes of work related to playground equipment, site prep, surfacing, fencing, drainage, and landscaping.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and material estimates using digital tools e.g. RSMeans, AI, etc.
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates based on project scope, drawings, and historical data.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and the sales team to align estimates with design intent and constructability.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and scope reviews to ensure estimate accuracy.
  • Assist in preparing final bid packages, proposals, and bid clarifications for submission to clients.
  • Maintain and update cost databases, unit pricing, and historical cost records.
  • Assist with risk assessments and scheduling input during preconstruction phases.
  • Oversee detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing using industry-standard software and databases.
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers; ensure accurate and competitive pricing across all trades.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Sales Reps, ensuring clear communication, timely support, and alignment between project estimates and customer expectations.
  • Perform final reviews of estimates to verify completeness, accuracy, and adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Develop and refine estimating processes, tools, templates, and best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support change order pricing, budget updates, and post-bid negotiations as needed.
  • Maintain organized estimate files and documentation for awarded and prospective projects.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and techniques to provide informed estimates.

What Youโ€™ll Need

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
  • 5-10 years of experience in estimating or engineering roles within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, STACK, RSMeans, WinEst, ProEst).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, codes, and industry practices.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of risk management in preconstruction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with public bid projects (municipal parks, school districts, HUD-funded developments).
  • Familiarity with ADA, ASTM, and CPSI playground compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of common surfacing systems: poured-in-place rubber (PIP), artificial turf, engineered wood fiber (EWF).
  • Comfortable reading civil/site plans and equipment layouts
  • CPE (Certified Professional Estimator) or CCP (Certified Cost Professional) certification.

ยท Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental plans

ยท Employer-paid life and disability insurance, paid parental leave

ยท 401(k) retirement plan with company match
