They work with cloud services, automation, and scripting to ensure scalable, reliable, and efficient platforms for applications. Strong knowledge of systems, networking, and scripting languages is essential for this role.

What are Platform Engineers?

Platform Engineers are IT professionals who design, build, and maintain the foundational technology systems (or platforms) that enable software development and operations teams to deploy and manage applications efficiently. Their work involves creating scalable, reliable, and automated infrastructure, often using tools like cloud services, container orchestration, and CI/CD pipelines. Platform Engineers collaborate closely with developers, DevOps, and IT teams to ensure that the technology stack supports business needs and software delivery. They help streamline workflows, improve system reliability, and enable faster release cycles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Platform Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Platform Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, systems architecture, and cloud infrastructure, often supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with containerization tools (like Docker and Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code platforms (such as Terraform), and cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is typically required, along with relevant certifications. Strong problem-solving skills, collaboration, and effective communication help Platform Engineers drive reliability and innovation within technical teams. These competencies are crucial for building scalable, secure, and efficient platforms that support an organization's technology needs.

Job description

Job Summary:
Console is building AI agents that power autonomous enterprises, enabling companies to delegate work to AI systems. They are seeking a Platform Engineer to architect and build the infrastructure that will allow Console to scale to hundreds of enterprise customers seamlessly.
Responsibilities:
• Architect and ship a self-hostable version of Console, unlocking enterprise use cases with strict data and security constraints
• Own how we ship to production by designing and evolving a deployment system that stays fast, reliable, and downtime-free as we scale
• Build and run our cloud infrastructure across AWS/GCP, making critical tradeoffs across performance, cost, and reliability
• Make the entire engineering team faster by improving tooling, workflows, and the day-to-day developer experience
• Drive how we build and deploy, from faster builds to safer releases such as blue-green deployments, so we can ship quickly without breaking things
Qualifications:
Required:
• 5+ years of full-time experience in backend or platform engineering
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP and a real understanding of the tradeoffs, not just the defaults
• Experience with IaC tools like Terraform or Pulumi and relative comfort with our stack (TypeScript/Node/React)
• A track record building high-scale, production-grade systems from the ground up
• Strong instincts around developer experience and a drive to build platforms other engineers love building on
• A bias toward reliability and quality where good enough genuinely bothers you
Company:
Console is an AI-Native ITSM, built to help teams automate support and shift from doing the work to managing the system that does the work for them. Founded in 2024, the company is headquartered in San Francisco, CA, US, , with a team of 51-200 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
