Controller

Location: Grand Rapids, MI (Onsite)
Compensation: $150,000–$165,000

The Opportunity

A growing, privately held multi-entity organization is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a complex portfolio of operating entities. The ideal candidate is someone who is equally comfortable owning the accounting function end to end and partnering with investors and ownership on financial strategy, capital allocation, and cash flow decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full accounting function across a multi-entity, multi-state environment
  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and close processes
  • Manage treasury operations, cash flow, and intercompany transfers across 40+ bank accounts
  • Oversee accounting for capital expenditures, development projects, and property-level activity
  • Serve as a financial partner to ownership and investors, presenting and explaining performance
  • Support due diligence and financial integration related to acquisitions
  • Administer and optimize financial systems and tools (ERP, AP, expense, and credit card platforms)
  • Lead, coach, and develop a growing accounting team with a hands-on, collaborative approach
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
  • 5–10 years of Controller-level experience within a multi-entity environment (required)
  • Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience
  • Strong hands-on background in accounting operations, financial reporting, and treasury management
  • ERP experience in a multi-entity environment (NetSuite strongly preferred)
  • Exposure to asset-heavy or operating-company structures (e.g., real estate, hospitality, or similar) is a plus
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, entity integrations, or rapid growth environments is beneficial
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with empathy, coach developing teams, and communicate effectively with ownership and investors
