Job description

Position: Advanced Materials & Technology Engineer

Location: Etters, PA

Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMs globally. We are currently seeking an experienced Advanced Materials & Technology Engineerto join our team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an Advanced Materials & Technology Engineerreporting to the Sr. Engineering Manager, you are responsible for the development, evaluation, and implementation of advanced materials and processes for interconnect technologies.

  • Evaluate and assess new materials (polymers, metals, coatings, composites, etc.) and processes to support Amphenol's technology roadmap.
  • Conduct lab- and pilot-scale experiments to prototype and validate emerging technologies and their processes for next generation designs.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for product and process issues involving materials.
  • Support material characterization, reliability testing, and performance benchmarking.
  • Collaborate with Development, NPI, Signal and Mechanical Integrity teams to identify material challenges and translate findings into manufacturable solutions.
  • Engage in early-stage concept development to capture design needs, customer requirements, and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Interface with suppliers, research labs, and universities to assess emerging material and process technologies.
  • Document technical findings, prepare reports, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders in a detailed manner.
  • Support technology transfer and scale-up of validated processes to manufacturing teams.
  • Supporting the development and validation of product design with flow simulations using Moldflow, Moldex 3D or Sigmasoft.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline (Master's or PhD preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in materials development, materials engineering, or advanced manufacturing, with hands-on experience working with both polymer/plastic materials and metallic materials (preferably within the electronics, connector, interconnect, or metal manufacturing industries)
  • Demonstrated experience in material selection, processing, characterization, and performance evaluation of polymers, engineering plastics, metal alloys, coatings, and surface treatment technologies.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes related to both plastics and metals, including injection molding, metal forming, stamping, plating, coatings, and assembly technologies.
  • Experience with solid modeling tools - Creo and/or SolidWorks and/or NX.
  • Proficiency in polymer flow software like Moldflow, Sigmasoft and/or Moldex 3D a plus
  • Experience with data analysis software, MS Excel, Matlab, Minitab and/or Origin
  • Hands-on experience with materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR, mechanical testing).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to link material properties to performance.
  • Curiosity-driven mindset with a passion for innovation and emerging technologies
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding, plating, coatings, adhesives, composites) a plus.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate technical findings to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
